BENZIE / MANISTEE UPDATE via Benzie Manistee Snowbirds – 01/12
Trail Updates
We have been hard at work this week clearing downed trees from several of our trail segments. Trail #3 into Maple City is still currently closed. We are still working with the DNR and Leelanau County Road Commission to get this trail segment reopened.
Trail 386 from Chief Road into the Saddle Up gas station is now open. We have received the lease agreement from the new land owner and have cleared downed trees from the trail.
As far as the current snow conditions, we have 6 – 8 inches on the ground with much more in the forecast. Grooming of our trail system will start on Sunday.
Please be careful if you ride this weekend. With the high winds that are forecast for this weekend you may come across trees that have fallen onto our trails. Please report them to us so we can clear them.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> After the warm temperatures and melting snow during the day today (Thursday)...temperatures will drop off rapidly after sunset. This will lead to any wetness re-freezing on area roadways, which could lead to icy roadways and/or black ice formation tonight through Friday morning. Back roads, which became slushy today will refreeze as well, leading to complicated driving conditions. WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> There will be some melting before the weekend, but, if you are heading north the current snowpack is looking decent for many winter sport areas! Too bad that color is 40-50 inches, not 50-75 lol and its 1-2 ft not 3-4 ft
This supposed to be current snow depth? I’m 7 miles south of pine stump and we’ve gotten well over 2 foot in the last 48 hours alone. There’s way more than 50” out there. Way more than 75 even.
