Benzie Area Trail Report – 01/16

RIDEABLE Not our best… There is not a significant amount of snow for grooming operations. Our head groomer Jeff has let me know that. NO, trails were groomed today all 3 tractors are parked till we receive fresh snow. Groomers we’re out on Tuesday night, Please show some respect for the guys grooming during the late hours.

Wednesday we found, Drag racing every couple hundred yards leaving big piles and ruts for miles on a fresh groomed trail. And Thursday we found a Truck, that tore up trail #3 north of Coates Hwy. this does not help! He was stuck with police out there to get them!

We are warmer temps and peck-a-boo sun to cloudy with very few flurries of Lake effect snow last night. As we were working on smoothing ruts and were starting to set a thin base. Our total now is 10 to 15 inches of snow on the ground but not on our trail. The condition of base is fair to poor in many places, as last weekend traffic did thin the trail in some spots snirt to dirt and is icy to muddy on some curves, be careful. It was very busy for first ride of season, seen many sleds go by lasts weekend enjoying our winter wonderland. If you do ride this weekend please be slow and easy on what is left of our base with near 40 degree temps possible on Saturday.

If big crowds at Tip up town is not your thing then come enjoy our peaceful wooded trails this weekend. With that said what are you waiting for… Just load it up, come on up to get out and enjoy your ride. Look below the map for our next 5 day forecast!

Not quite ready for our favorite saying, “Well groomed and ready to ride” need some **wet packing snow** warmer temps are helping our packing but not on trails. You can help by getting your dancing boots to start stumping a snow dance. Thanks for riding our trails. We do maintain it for all you winter sports enthuse to enjoy now get out and ride.

Benzie Visitor Bureau – 01/15

Hi all! We’re almost through the week! Groomers say they are all out and that there is still 12-16′ of snow out there. They are panning it hoping to keep the base we have started. We are getting a little warming trend for a few days it looks like with a bit of lake effect possible. The warm up and the panning with cold temps at night should pack that base. Weekend traffic is hard on the trails, making them thin in some areas and icy on the curves so be careful. The groomers will be out trying to stay ahead of it as much as they can! So get out while ya can but go easy, don’t go digging ruts for the next guy! So we need more snow so do your dance, pray, or cross your fingers, whatever it takes! By the way there is a Snowmobile Safety Course coming up this weekend for young riders between 12 -16 years old from 9AM-11AM at the Benzie Sheriff’s office in Beulah. Call 231-882-4484 to pre-register. AND for the riders out there remember the Benzie Manistee Snowbirds Clubhouse has an OPEN HOUSE every Saturday in January & February! Stop in at 14121 Industrial Drive in Kaleva. Fun conversation, free warm-up coffee or hot-coco & a snack provided by the club! OK! So till next time keep up the snow dance and I will SEEYA on the trails baby!

Benzie Area Trail Report – 01/05

We want to Wish you a great snowmobile season with the New Year!! Groomer report coming soon as more snow falls! Hope your ready for another great year again.

There still is not a significant amount of snow to begin grooming operations as of yet. There is about 4 to 7 inches of snow on the ground with drifts in some areas. The temperatures have dropped with frigid arctic blast moving in. The forecast is calling for high winds blowing snowdrifts, more snowfall; possible additional snow showers each day throughout the week. Temperatures will be down in the single digits at night, with highs in the double digits by day. Hopeful we will be able to keep the snow we accumulate to build our base. Things have changed it’s looking like winter out there with snow and more coming with grooming about to begin.

We hope to report very soon our favorite saying; “Well groomed and ready to ride”. Keep your snow dance on.

Remember this Saturday with luck we may have enough snow Hope you can join us for our Open House every Saturday in January and February….. at our clubhouse, located on 14121 Industrial Drive in Kaleva. There is great conversation, free warm-up coffee or hot-coco with a snack will be provided by the club. All are Welcome!!

Happy Monday! Got snow? We do! IT started out as an inch or two of system snow on Saturday and turned lake effect Sunday. We got anywhere from 5-8′ plus inches! There isn’t really enough snow yet to get the groomers out but SOON I hope! Forecast is for a few more inches over the next few days! So It’s not groomed and great but is that rough sorta early season rideable! So let’s hope this is the beginning of a good rest of the season finally! Temps have sure dropped so if you do venture out, bundle up! It’s single digit cold with below zero windchill! They tell me there has been some trail trouble on #39 (N.E. of Thompsonville) due to flooding over trail. They been working on it (filling in low areas and grading) so hopefully with that and the super cold , it will freeze up and snow will cover. NOTE – The Benzie Manistee Snowbirds Clubhouse has an OPEN HOUSE every Saturday in January and February! Stop in! They are located at 14121 Industrial Drive in Kaleva. Fun conversation, free warm-up coffee or hot-coco & a snack provided by the club. All Welcome!! OK! So till next time keep up the snow dance! I’ll pop back in here once we get more snow and the groomers can get out! Thanks to Tim & Steve for your emails today! I LOVE hearing from you all out there! SEEYA on the trails baby!
