Benzie Area Trail Report – Honor Motel – 01/20

There is plenty of snow on the ground in Benzie County. We had 8 inches of that white fluffy stuff fall just this week. A clipper is dumping 3-6 inches tonight and several more inches of lake effect snow is predicted throughout the day
tomorrow.

Trail #3 was last groomed on Wednesday, our riding guests report today that trail conditions are good to very good. Should be great riding after tonight and tomorrow’s expected snowfall, but dress warm, fridgid air is here for the weekend!

We had many riders, trails are good to excellent, 5 inches or more of wet snow very much ride-able. Grooming is done 4 days a week, by 3 groomers at different parts of our trail every Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. nights, also as needed. Groomed reports: All out today South #1 groomer does Kaleva to High Bridge back to Kaleva, next day #1 south does Kaleva thru Bear Lake spur, thru Copemish to near-by Thompsonville. Middle #2 groomer Copemish spur, Beulah spur and around East Leg loop . North #3 groomer does Ayls Worth Rd. to Maple City. Trail conditions: The trail is good to excellent, some base (fluff doesn’t pack good) but new wet snow will make it better, come ride. Weather forecast: We have gotten 8 inches of fluffy snow over week. Started Thursday 5:30pm great wet snow possible 5 to 8 inches in some places, with blowing drifts, colder temps and – 4 wind chill. They may have got it right this time with our 5in and still coming down. It was predicted for lake effect flurries with Arctic blast temps frigid -0 wind chills all weekend. They are calling for lake effect flurries at night with -0 to single digits temps, daytime in single digit to teen’s with -4 wind chill. Join us Saturday at club open house, from 10 am to 4 pm, to warm and meet or visit others there.

TGIF! Trails are looking pretty good and that base is building back up as we speak since we had a bit of a LE system come thru last night thru today dropping anywhere from 3- 8″! Groomers were out Wednesday night and again today! Brrrr! Cold temps, down near zero ar night and only low teens for a high for few couple days so bundle up in the layers! Note! When you are in the area, stop in to the Snowbirds clubhouse, Saturdays thru Jan & Feb! Every Saturday 10am -4pm. is Open House day at the Club! Everyone’s welcome to stop by to warmup and visit! Please, do me a favor…to keep ALL parts of the trails open for us, STAY ON THE TRAIL! This means YOU! Its not just a given that we get every inch of trail for our fun. We gotta stay on track at all times! By the way, those groomers are out there volunteering their time and energy to us, so if ya see one, get outta their way and give them a thumbs up as they go by! THANKS TONS to Steve from Cincinnati, Stormi, Jeff, and Todd for the emails and pics! I LOVE them! Ride smart, sober, & safe! CYA ON THE TRAILS! Carol
