Boyne Area Trail Report – Mountainside Inn – 01/11

Petoskey Snowmobile Club – 01/11
Current Trail Conditions: Good

We had a couple beautiful days over last weekend. Sunny but cold. Great riding out on the trails. The problem with sunny, cold weather is that it tends to evaporate some of the moisture out of the snow so the trails are getting just a bit thin in spots. We had a little bit of lake-effect snow on Sunday night and into Monday morning but we could use a good solid snowfall of at least a few inches to freshen up the trails. Grooming operations are continuing and the trails are good. Don’t wait for more snow. Ride now. Mid-week is usually excellent riding. Smooth trails and little traffic.

The new trail into Petoskey IS OPEN! It goes from our clubhouse trailhead (on the corner of Cedar Valley Rd. and Evergreen Trail) to the Odawa Casino just south of Petoskey. The trail has a few road crossings, including having to cross US-131 at Lears Rd. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use extreme caution when crossing any road. STAY ON THE TRAIL and obey traffic signals. Safety first.

Mancelona Trail Report
Jordan Valley Trails Council
Updated: 01/10
Current Trail Conditions: Poor

The lake effect snow did not fair too well to all the weekend traffic. The trails between Mancelona and Lakes of the North are still in ride able condition but most of the system is not that good. The groomer from Larrys is not going out till we get some more snow. If you need to ride there is snow enough on parts of the trail to have a good ride but don’t expect to have a good ride on the whole system.

Boyne Area Trail Report – Mountainside Inn – 01/08

Petoskey Snowmobile Club – 01/07
Current Trail Conditions: Good

Trails are back in good shape thanks to a bunch of lake-effect snow over the last couple days. Both groomers were out last night and groomed the entire trail system, including the new trail into Petoskey. Reports are that the trail base has quickly built back up to 8 inches or more so you will have some great riding now.

Mancelona Trail Report
Jordan Valley Trails Council
Updated: 01/08
Current Trail Conditions: Fair

The lake effect snow machine hit us good. John down in Mancelona said he got about 14 inches overnight and it snowed all day after that. Up in Charlevoix there has been 8 inches to a foot of new snow in the last 24 hours. Rememmber that this is lake effect and does not build base very well but at least we are getting something. All 3 groomers where out at sometime today. The trail to Charlevoix was groomed today for the first time this year. that was yesterday, now today the groomers will still be running but lake effect did not build much base. Just got a text from the groomer driver that is on the trail now and he said there is a base of about 0 – 1-1/2 " ontop of ice and that considering the snow was lake effect the trails are in pretty good shape. He groomed untill 2:30 this mornning and is back out now.
