Newberry Trail Report – Visit Newberry – 12/06

Gates open the day after muzzloading season on Private land, December 13th on private land. Trails on State land open on Dec. 1. Once we get about 12" of snow we will be out Panning the trail for the first time.

MSA RAFFLE

MSA raffle tickets for Michigan Snwomobile Education and Advancement Fund, are avaiable thru T.A.S.A., with The drawing on Jan. 18, 2011. Prizes are 3 Snowmobiles, 2011 Artic CatF6 SNO PRO, 2011 Polaris 550 Shift, and 2011 Ski-Doo MXZ TNT 600 H.O. E-TEC.

MEETING TIME

THE NEXT REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING IS TUESDAY Dec 14, 2010, 6:30 P.M. AT THE GOOMER BARN LOCATED AT 9017 M-123, GUESTS ARE WELCOME.

Meetings will be held every other Tuesday thereafter through the winter.

We have updated the Newberry Village trail map. There are just a couple of changes from the last map. Look for our upcoming article in the February issue of the Michigan Snowmobiler Magazine.

Lake Effect Snow Warning for the Newberry Area

…SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW TO CONTINUE OVER NORTHEAST UPPER
MICHIGAN INTO EARLY FRIDAY…

.A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE WILL LINGER ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN
UPPER MICHIGAN THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING. THIS TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO
GENERATE HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST
UPPER MICHIGAN IN A WEST TO NORTHWESTERLY WIND FLOW. PERIODS OF
REDUCED VISIBILITY TO AROUND A QUARTER MILE AT TIMES WILL OCCUR IN
HEAVIER SNOW BANDS…OR AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW.

…LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST
FRIDAY…
IMPACTS…

* TRAVEL WILL BE HAZARDOUS THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY MORNING…WITH
SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY ROADS.

* VISIBILITIES WILL ALSO BE REDUCED IN THE HEAVIER SNOW BANDS…AND
IN LOCATIONS WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW DUE TO GUSTY WINDS.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER…

* LAKE EFFECT SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOW
WILL FALL OVER LOCATIONS FAVORED BY A WEST TO NORTHWEST WIND.

* TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 17 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED
THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THE HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED FROM
MUNISING…EAST TO DEER PARK AND TWO HEART. LESSER ACCUMULATIONS
ARE EXPECTED WEST OF MUNISING AND OVER THE SOUTHERN HALF OF LUCE
COUNTY.

* NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH…WITH GUSTS NEAR 30 MPH INTO THIS
EVENING COULD PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW NEAR LAKE
SUPERIOR…REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO AROUND A QUARTER MILE OR LESS
AT TIMES.
