MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA – 02/24
TRAIL REPORT – Wednesday, 2-24-2021 A WARM WEATHER HIT BUT HANGING ON! We received about an inch of new snow last night and it’s still falling. Operators reported fair grooming results with our Trail System in Overall Good condition, staying fairly flat through the day with some icy corners developing. The trails are soft and not setting after grooming due to the warm weather. Ride with caution. In the towns and along highways you will be finding dirty snow and bare spots. Trail 8 from Shingleton to Trail 7 South is the highest used section of trail with snow sugary along that stretch. Even with this warm spell, the trails are hanging on for some really good riding – but barely. Yesterday work was done on the JD 7130 repairing a fuel tank bracket and groove cutting was started on the front tracks. This will hopefully solve our icy hill climb issues we get on both sides of Munising after these low snow warm spells. Please respect residential property owners and STAY ON THE TRAIL, No Snowmobile Signs mean just that. Please DO NOT run the Powerlines off of Trail 419. Our Team of volunteer Groomer Operators will continue to do their best to keep trails flat. Keep snow dancing, get out and ENJOY the Trails, Ride Safe and Stay Tuned for updates!

An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected over the east, primarily north of M-28. Expect the transition to pure lake-effect tonight, with the lake-effect machine continuing through the rest of this week into this weekend.

The first polar front will sweep through the Midwest on Thanksgiving day bringing temperatures 10 to 15 degrees below average. Lows below zero are expected for some across the north and in the single digits down to I80. Highs this weekend will only be in the single digits and teens for areas down to I80. Dangerous wind chills of -20 degrees or colder are increasingly likely, especially north of I90. The graphic below shows the temperatures on Sunday morning.
Another polar front will move through next week bringing even colder temperatures.
