KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western UP Trail Reports – 01/19

❄️7" more Last night❄️

From December 30th (left) to today January 19th (Right) we have got over 60 inches. Grooming is is full swing here in the Copper Country and trails are getting in pretty good shape. It’s still early season riding with water hole trying to freeze up and few downed limbs. But for the most part they are very rideable.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> One of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals.
Key Notes:
•Snow begins to work into Michigan late tonight, but becomes more widespread during the early morning hours of Sunday. This snow continues through Tuesday morning for the UP, and becomes a snow/freezing rain/sleet mix for northern lower Michigan beginning Sunday afternoon/evening.
•Winds will gust between 40-60mph statewide both on Sunday and Monday.
•This will be a full on blizzard for much of the Upper Peninsula
•Expect scattered power outages across the state
•Travel will be near impossible for the UP and northern lower
Snow totals will be between one and four FEET when all is said and done on Tuesday in the UP. Further south, a mix is expected which will keep accumulations lower, and also will provide a sharp cutoff of accumulations. The difference between a foot of snow and 2” may be the width of one county.
Further south, this system will end as snow for lower Michigan on Monday & Tuesday, which is why we have a wide area within a trace to an inch, and western lower in a 1-3” zone with wording of higher totals possible. We may need to adjust totals here as new data comes clearer for Tuesday.
Stay tuned for the icing portion of this forecast. Northern lower Michigan will see significant icing which is not shown or communicated in this forecast graphic or write up. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyOne of the most absurd snow forecasts we’ve ever made here at MSC, we’ve had to add an impromptu orange color for higher totals.

HOLY WAH! It’s a true winter wonderland here in the Keweenaw! Look at these snowfall totals over the last 5 days! FORTY-SIX inches of fresh white gold has fallen!

As of this morning they had covered every trail with the exception of trail 133 from Gay to Lac la Belle and the High Rock Trail Spur! Please continue to ride with caution as they are still reporting that “there continue to be water holes, trees, and thin spots.” You can checkout daily updates on the Visit Keweenaw website

https://www.visitkeweenaw.com/…/snowfall-trail-conditions/

👏 In case you missed the news: Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden has been reopened and it is awesome to be able to ride that section of trail after it being closed since the Fathers Day Flood of 2018!

If you have a future trip planned to the Keweenaw you can also request a free paper copy trail map be mailed to you here ➡ https://www.visitkeweenaw.com/plan/free-area-guides/ Tons of good information can be found on the Visit Keweenaw website!

There is a nominal fee of $9.99 and half of the fee comes right back to the club to help with grooming operations! This enables you to see the recent and current grooming status of every trail!
