TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club – 2/21

Trail Report: 02-21-2022
We just can’t catch a break! I thought the 5 or so inches of snow last week was going to get us back on track. Then, the balmy 45 degree temperatures on Sunday all but did the trails in. They have more ice and dirt on them now than snow. If that isn’t bad enough, they just issued an Ice Storm Warning for the area until Wednesday at midnight for a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of ice. Again, we just can’t catch a break. I will update again when we get some measurable snow to report on.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> After the warm temperatures and melting snow during the day today (Thursday)...temperatures will drop off rapidly after sunset. This will lead to any wetness re-freezing on area roadways, which could lead to icy roadways and/or black ice formation tonight through Friday morning. Back roads, which became slushy today will refreeze as well, leading to complicated driving conditions. Finally, sidewalks and parking lots could also become hazardous to navigate. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyAfter the warm temperatures and melting snow during the day today (Thursday)...temperatures will drop off rapidly after sunset. Traverse City Trail Report – 02/20

TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via RANCH RUDOLF – 2/20

Groomers did run last night. Trails are averaging fair at best. There is just so much ice underneath. Thin spots. Who knows what next with projected low 40s today. The roller coaster weather has made it tough for snowmobilers. It has been nearly impossible to establish any sort of sustainable base this winter. Hats off to all those volunteer groomer drivers who make the trails the best they can be with what we have to work with
