St. Ignace – Straits Area Trail Report – 01/26
Thursday January 26th
Trail update
All our northern sections are groomed and in good condition.
Our southern section of the railroad grade between Moran and castle rock road has a large water hole that is signed and not recommended. Getting out of St ignace can be done but is thin and bumpy from town to castle rock. Then taking south loop is passable but thin. We groomed what we could in this area. If your riding anything in out southern areas please use extreme caution.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A much cloudier day over the UP compared to yesterday! Light snow showers have been observed today with only a half inch so far at the office here in Negaunee Township. Despite the light nature of the snow, it has been efficient at reducing visibility, with below 1 mile visibility being reported at some locations this morning, so take caution while traveling today! #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Scattered lake effect snow showers will develop across western into north central Upper Michigan today. Snow accumulations today will be an inch or less, except 1 to 2 inches in the high terrain of Baraga and Marquette counties. The snow showers will diminish later tonight. Attention then turns to a widespread system snow that will develop from west to east across Upper Michigan later Saturday afternoon and evening. The snow will continue Saturday night, then diminish during Sunday morning. Snow accumulations across Upper Michigan by late Sunday morning should range from 2 to 5 inches. Trail update
Everything is being groomed on a as needed basis. We are mostly flat and in good shape. The only issue to note is we do not have a big base on the rail road grade from Moran to St ignace. It is currently passable with a few thin spots and might get worse as the weekend gets busy. Our next snow chance comes on Saturday night. Overall you can expect a good ride in our area.
