St. Ignace Trail Report – 01/14

Looks like we are settling into that mid-January pattern where it warms up and we get no snow. Forecast for the coming week isn’t good for the trails, it is supposed to touch 32 on Saturday, and be upper 20s with really no new snow until next week sometime.

Overall trails are in pretty good shape. Remember all of the snow so far this season is dry lake effect, so it is packing down thin. Speaking of, there are really only 2 really tin areas to worry about, and they are the same every year, the mile RR Grade next to Hay lake, just North of Iggy, and the 2 miles of the grade just South of Moran. Other then that things are in pretty decent shape for what we have to work with, and the great news is the water hole South of Trout Lake is frozen over, so no hazard there.

So for this coming weekend, trails will be ridable – mid-early season conditions. There are currently trailers in the parking lot. You can ride out of Iggy and will find those couple little issues. You can certainly trailer further North if you feel the need.

I understand that TASA has reached Epoufette, and halfway to Trout Lake. The Chasers are grooming into the North side of Trout Lake, trails ridable going North. We are NOT grooming our Cedarville connector, as Cedarville is not grooming yet, so we will concentrate on our core system for now, and will groom that up starting next week.

St. Ignace Trail Report – 12/23

Hey Santa, I want some snow for Christmas!

Lots of sun – mild temps and some rain have really taken a toll on what little we had in our area. Yesterday there was less then 2′ of snow around and lots of melting.

The Christmas storm that is in the forecast is starting a bit early. They were calling for all rain today, then turning to snow tomorrow, and into Christmas. Well, it was raining very early this morning, and it has turned into a very heavy super saturated snow. Big flakes mixed in with lots of rain water.

This looks like it will change back to rain and then end in another few hours, maybe taking away what it is giving us. Looks like Wednesday into Thursday we are forecasted to get 2′-3′.

We are still in need of a decent storm to get things going around here. Go sit on Santa’s lap, and ask for snow.
