St. Ignace Trail Report – 02/09

I can’t believe that I am gonna say this, but our trails are in pretty good shape. We groomed everything up on Monday while it was soft, and it has frozen really hard and fast. In fact some of the trails are glazed over with ice. The woods aren’t as bad, but the grade is icy for sure.

So here is the beak down, you can ride if you want to, but be darn careful. Things are icy, and very hard, and smooth. There are 2 sections of about 100′ of gravel on the RR Grade coming out of Iggy which will pose a bit of a problem. The pipeline is in tough shape. It is really thin and sections of the trail are sand. On Tuesday, Dave told me you could pick you way through there with a sled, going from side to ride and get through, but it isn’t flat and fast for sure. The rest of the trails are smooth, a bit icy and very very hard. All of the water problems are gone. We have the absolute perfect base if we can get some snow topper.

If you wanted to bypass the couple of trouble spots and ride from castle rock Rd, park out by the expressway, don’t try to drive into the trail. That fist hill is glare ice, no way to bring a trail back down if you make it to the top.

Got some pics for you today. The first 3 are RR Grade out of Iggy, you can see a short gravel section in there. You can kinda get off to the side, but it is tough. The next set are Castle Rock Rd, and the RR Grade out of Iggy, looking in all 3 directions. This is pretty much what the trails look like everywhere else.

Be careful out there kiddies!

St. Ignace Trail Report – 02/06

Looks like somehow we came through the weekend mostly OK. The work and smart decisions on how to groom by our drivers have sure stretched the snow we have a long ways. I just don’t know how much longer we can make it last without a decent snowfall. We are smoothing things out today as it is supposed to get cold mid-week. Even though it is nice to see, the sun is forecasted to be out all week too, which may hurt us worse then the warm temps over the weekend. It is now the first full week of February and we have little to no ice, and the grass is showing in the yard, this is just strange.

Coming week looks like:

Quote:
Today: Increasing clouds, with a high near 38. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 8. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 20. Wind chill values as low as zero. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 8. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28. West wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 31.

Thursday Night: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10.

Friday: A chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 16.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 7.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 19.
Which doesn’t look too bad, but still no storms on the horizon. Maintaining what we have will be tricky, but if it is still good and ridable I will post up some pics and a report later in the week.

The guys I talked to over the weekend said things were decently busy, which was nice to hear. We will see if we can get another weekend out of this, I think we can.

Planning and mobilization for the pond hockey on the 19th is in high gear. I think town is sold out and we will do everything we can to pull that off too!
