Grand Marais Trail Report – Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 03/01

3/1/12 ~ The ‘storm’ ended mid-afternoon yesterday leaving us with about 3-4″ of new snow in town and an estimate of 7″ +/- out in the snowbelt, especially on the south and western trails. Click here for the snow cover map. As you can see, the UP has 20 to 39″ on the ground overall; higher elevations have even more. After checking reports around the area, I can say that you can now ride the whole UP. And for you long trip riders, it looks like you could go from the middle LP all the way to the Keweenaw! Even the trail into town is in fair to good shape. The weather guru’s have us u nder an advisory with another storm moving in Friday night and into Saturday with lake enhancement; this could bring up to an additional foot of snow according to some reports. Bring It On!

The re-route of #443 has been postponed for now. Be alert for logging equipment and vehicular traffic crossing on #443 and the east end of #88. And don’t forget to watch your local PBS station tonight for Michigan Out of Doors where they will be doing a feature story on snowmobiling around Grand Marais! If you miss it on TV you can catch it on-line – go to our facebook page for the link.

Please use the trail into and out of town. If you have accommodations on the east side of GM, ride the edge of the road, single file, yada, yada, yada, you know the rules…

Mark your calendars:

We are working on a fund raiser breakfast for St. Patty’s Day (March 17th). I’ll post details as they come together.

We are also in the early stages of another fund raiser on the 4th of July or during the Music Festival in August. If you can help out with any of them, let me know!

10/13/2012 ~ Fall Trail Maintenance, dinner, and kick-off meeting for next season.

As always, Ride Safe and bring them home alive. Please Don’t Drink and Ride!
