LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – 12/20
Friday December 20th report from the Bergland area crew. Groomer’s doing what Groomer’s do!! We are running nightly and trying to keep up with the traffic. We were finally able to cross the swamp section on 1n to White Pine which hasn’t been groomed yet. (and it showed.) We made 3 passes through that section and noticed the ice was pumping so we’ll let er freeze up tonight and hit it again tomorrow. Lot’s of thumbs up and smiles tonight from riders which is always appreciated. We thank you for choosing our area to ride! We take a lot of pride in the work we put in.. Think snow! WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A much cloudier day over the UP compared to yesterday! Light snow showers have been observed today with only a half inch so far at the office here in Negaunee Township. Despite the light nature of the snow, it has been efficient at reducing visibility, with below 1 mile visibility being reported at some locations this morning, so take caution while traveling today! #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Scattered lake effect snow showers will develop across western into north central Upper Michigan today. Snow accumulations today will be an inch or less, except 1 to 2 inches in the high terrain of Baraga and Marquette counties. The snow showers will diminish later tonight. Attention then turns to a widespread system snow that will develop from west to east across Upper Michigan later Saturday afternoon and evening. The snow will continue Saturday night, then diminish during Sunday morning. Snow accumulations across Upper Michigan by late Sunday morning should range from 2 to 5 inches. We're still down to one machine until most likely Monday, but at this moment 102 and 1n are being groomed then 13n to 101 and 8w to Wakefield.. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> A Ride to Remember with a True Trail Legend
Some rides are just special, and today was one of them. I had the privilege of hitting the trails with none other than Rick, our very own “Trail Boss.” Rick has been riding from our hotel for over 35 years—long before I ever got on a sled myself. In fact, he used to watch me hop on the school bus in the mornings before heading out on his own ride.
Today, we made our way to Victoria Falls, taking in the breathtaking beauty of the trails, the snow-covered trees, and the crisp winter air. There’s no better way to experience the backcountry than with someone who knows these trails like the back of his hand.
Riding with an OG like Rick reminds me why we love this sport—it’s about the adventure, the people, and the places that keep calling us back year after year.
