Our trails really couldn’t be in better condition for a great ride! Temps this week will finally be back to normal with highs in the 20’s! We’ve got more snow than we know what to do with and the traffic has actually been pretty light over this last weekend, probably due to the extreme cold we were experiencing. But it’s all good now, and as some of you know March is the bonus month for snowmobiling up here. Conditions are perfect; the trails I can spot from the roadways look smoother than some of our roads! So, come on up and enjoy them!!
Keep in mind that the deer are moving around more and more on the snowmobile trails due to the extremely deep snow, so keep an eye open for them. Never run behind them as they don’t have the lungs for long, fast running. Come to a stop and enjoy watching them for a bit. If they don’t immediately move off just try slowly approaching them, that’ll usually do the trick.
Another reminder to please stay off the railroad tracks. This can be dangerous, it is against the law and you will be fined for riding on the tracks. The snowmobile trails are in way too good of condition to have any excuse not to stay on them.
Be sure to pick up a copy of the newest edition of the Gogebic Times, put out by the Lake Gogebic Area Chamber of Commerce, which can be found at most local businesses. Not only will you find a snowmobile map and a lake map but there are some really great articles about snowmobile riding in our beautiful area. Not to mention some really great articles about the Lake Gogebic area and lots of great information for year round fun. Take one or two home with you, there free of cost to all.

February 26th, 2014 – Good news, bad news: good news – the trails are in fantastic condition and we have lots and lots of snow, bad news – the temperatures are dropping back down into the “very cold” zone. But we’ve seen worse; night time temps are expected to drop way below zero, somewhere in the minus 20 department, however daytime temps are looking to stay mostly in the single digits except for Thursday, where it’s only supposed to get to -3. When heading out just ride smart; layering of clothing, a full tank of fuel and a buddy to ride with in case one sled were to have problems. We’re getting even more snow today…we’ve received approximately 2-feet over this last week, probably more in areas like trail 102, 1 north and 13 north as they fall into the “snow belt area”. The groomers are out on all trails, no problems to report on any trails. Although, once again we’re having trouble with snowmobilers riding on the railroad tracks through Merriweather (near the Hoop) as well as in Bergland. In both areas the snowmobile trail runs parallel to the railroad tracks, so be sure you’re on the one that has snowmobile trail signs. You will be ticked by local law enforcement for riding on the RR tracks. Now that said, you couldn’t find better trail conditions than what we’ve got right here…come on up and have a blast riding in all this snow on trails that look as smooth as a roadway. Be sure to give our groomer drivers a thumbs up for the great job they’re doing!
