Ontonagon Trail Report – 01/11

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP – Trail Report: Well, yesterday got up to 39 and we lost some snow, but we DID NOT get any rain here. it’s 34 and dropping back down into the 20’s by noon and the snow machine is going to turn back on. The weather pundits are predicting 4-8" of new snow in the next 24 hours, and there is snow in the forecast for 4 of the next 5 days.

The BAD news is that we lost some snow, and did not groom yesterday. The GOOD news is that we will be out in force again tonight, and this warmer weather is going to let us pack down this new heavy snow into a fantastic trail base.

If you ride today, be cautious in the low areas on Trail 12 along the LP Walsh Rd just east of White Pine, just east of the Woodspur Rd, and the Norwich Rd. ditch. With this warm up, there may be open water again. The ice bridge on Trail 1 between White Pine and Silver City was good yesterday, but we’re not sure what its condition is today. Be safe out there!

Ontonagon Trail Report – 01/10

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP – Trail Update:

The guys were out last night and groomed most of the trail system. The trails are in very good to excellent condition.

The groomer operators were finally able to go down some parts of the Trail 12 ditch section along Norwich Rd and smooth out the moguls. We will keep working on that area. I rode that ditch Monday. Be cautious, there are a few narrow spots with water holes.

Unfortunately, it is going to get warm for the next 24-48 hours. We WILL NOT be out grooming tonight. Ride with caution and watch out for the wet areas and low spots. With this warm-up, they may open back up on us.

We will be replacing the worn tracks on the Pisten Bully today.

If the forecast holds, we will be back out on Thursday night setting trail for the week-end.
