Ironwood Trail Report – 12/09

IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club – 12/09

Grooming is paused until we get more snow.

Trail 2 from Cold Iron Brewing to Jagger’s Ore House LLC in Ramsay is open. The reroute remains closed and not open yet, but you can take Verona road south to Old US Hwy 2 and take that into Wakefield to catch the trails. Trail 2 to Marenisco is suitable for riding, take the 11 connector from trail 8 for some turns. 160 and 11S are closed for signing and brushing. Contact us if you’d like to help. Wish we had better news but we have a long season ahead and need to get the ground work finished up.

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's Report for Thursday 1-9-25..
Currently 17° with light snow. Temp's are perfect and look to remain that way. Without sounding like a broken record, we need snow! Everything is rideable but it's painful for our Groomer's and equipment. We aren't able to fill in holes and you feel everything!! Trail's.. 8w to Wakefield. We've seen the question's and the answer is no, it has not been groomed. We've clearly stated that we only have 3, well now 2 trails groomable. Trail 8w is a wetlands area and cannot have any permanent drainage culverts placed so we have to put in temporary. Again only something we can do if we have snow to work with and cover the culvert. Tonight the only trails that were groomed was 102 and 1n. Tonight going up 102 we were spinning tracks quite a bit in corners and decided against going up 13n to avoid any type of accidents and damaging equipment. We'll hopefully wake up to 16" of fresh pow and go from there! Good evening/morning. Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> SNOW TIME!!
The big system to the south will be giving us a little bit of snow on the north end Friday!
Expect a nice and easy 1-3" for the most part across the area. Roads will be slick at times, but salt and brine treatments should work just fine with temps in the middle 20s.
Winds could be about 10-15mph at times, which isn't too high, but still could cause some blowing around and reduced visibility. Mainly in wide open areas.
TIMING: Snow starts in Southwest Michigan, Lake Michigan shoreline of Northern Lower, and the U.P. between 7-8am. Flint and the TriCities by about 10-11am. Detroit likely after 12pm, maybe even as late as 2pm in some areas.
System snow will wrap up around midnight while lake effect kicks in on the west side of the state behind the system.
Lake effect totals Saturday are NOT included on this map. I'm keeping this for Friday only.
Lake effect Saturday will be very localized with some areas perhaps getting 3-6" more in heavy bands. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaSNOW TIME!!

LAKE GOGEBICA AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Marenisco area crews out tonight working Trail 1S from Marenisco to Presque Isle. The base is very thin but we tried to smooth it out as best possible. The beaver dam that we recently took down drained nicely but left a good size trench so use caution if traveling on this trail. The beavers looked to be retaliating by dropping some fresh trees across the trail which we cleaned up this evening. When we get some more snow we will start working on a snow bridge for the flowing creek. We also noted that recently someone decided to use a section of the trail with an ATV while it was still soft. Cleaned up and filled the ruts as best possible but there are still some decent ruts so again, use caution. Overall the base of Trail 1S is thin and there are exposed rocks, gravel and dirt in spots but is rideable and fairly smooth. The grade (Trail 1S and 2 combined) is in good condition and should be rock hard by tomorrow morning. Enjoy what we have, there is still decent riding to be had! #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> 1/8/25 TRAIL UPDATE
Josh R from da big city of TULA, MI sent in a video of him grooming a portion of 13 last night for his first solo run! Congrats, Josh!!!!
❄️FRESH SNOW! 1-3" seems to have fallen across the area. SNOW is forecast almost every single day for the next 10! Right now forecast is for minor accumulations, but it makes ALL the difference! Trails are rated fair with poor sections that have water hazards (trail 1 by Porkies, Trail 12 by Hamilton's North Coast Adventures, and trail 12 east of 137) as well as EXCELLENT sections that make you forget about those other spots! We are performing groomer training this week and curtailed our normal grooming efforts to make the snow last. Over processing the snow can cause it to turn into "sugar snow" and no longer set up the way we need it to.
TRAIL 11 SOUTH BOUNDARY ROAD and TRAIL 1 from White Pine to Lake of the Clouds is getting groomed tonight.
TRAIL 12 from White Pine to 101, Trail 13 from 101 to 137 is getting groomed tonight. #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos

IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club – 12/06

Trail 2 snowmobile-only reroute between Bessemer and Wakefield is not open yet, however with MDNR’s official approval this morning we took a huge step forward!! We have work requiring heavy equipment and that will take place next week, so read this a few times, the reroute is not open yet. We have much signing to complete, but the trail crew brushed the road route "semi-groomed" section, shown in pictures. Thank you to our community, the amazing dynamic group that is working so hard to keep this trail connector open. We don’t have much snow, but you can see how suitable this road route section will be. Be sure to support our sponsors like IncredibleBank Ironwood!! We will host a ribbon cutting when the trail is opened.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report
