It sure doesn’t look like Feb 23. The ground froze up again overnight but now its just rock hard frozen mud. Snow piles continue to melt down and I would guess the side bys will be out and about this weekend. It seems so strange not having any snow out there. On the bright side I have had a couple of good trips when I am usually here in Sledheads, I think I might have to go on another one just to keep myself entertained. I did wake up this morning thinking about the mountain man hill climb in Valdez Alaska, that happens in the middle of April and it is a great event to attend and watch. Even the snow in the black hills is light this season as thats another place that I like to ride. If you come by and my truck is here stop in and make sure I am awake. Thanks for checking in. Thankfully I had not heard of any snowmobile deaths this season until yesterday where someone went thru the ice up in the u.p. STAY OFF LAKES I have never seen a winter with ice the way it has been. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Ongoing heavy lake effect snow will continue to organize. Snowfall totals of 12-18" are expected across areas southeast of Grand Traverse Bay near Kalkaska. Localized amounts of 18"+ are possible by Monday morning. Snowfall rates of 1" to 3" per hour will lead to rapid accumulations on roads and near-zero visibility underneath heaviest banding, creating dangerous travel conditions. Sleds have been riding in all morning, first phone call came at 7:30 this morning and trailers are parked everywhere. I would guess another eight inches of snow over night and trying to keep up plowing is a trick. For those of you that have parked trailers at my storage lot I am not going to take any trailers at this time as I am already tight on room down there. Just check with me ahead of time to see if I can get some room down there. Parking out back behind my shop will be just daily and by donation. I would say we have to be about the 2 foot mark for the snow this week. Still the same story at Lake Margrethe by my house and I havent even dropped my blade yet at home. The snow is all north and west of Frederic. I cant even remember the last time we had snow on December 1. The snow is supposed to keep it up all week so I imagine next weekend will be really busy. Please remember to ride safely. This is the start of my 27th or 28th year in this place. Boy time flies when your having fun. Thanks for checking in. If it’s anything like usual michigan it’ll be gone in 2 weeks.
Would be nice to see a 34° sunny day and melt it down a foot and freeze it good and hard
Trails are great!
Are you measuring the snow banks where you plowed, I just left LON there is around 24" out there. Waters had around 12" when we came through.
