Indian River Trail Report – 01/21

What a windy, wet, and wild weather weekend we had. It was a downer overall until yesterday when the cold settled in and the snow started falling. Friday we got 1-2″ of fresh snow. Trail conditions were thin but getting there. Saturday started out with some light snow but turned to ice pellets and eventually rain, thunder, and lightening. Yesterday turned cold and icy; then light bands of lake effect started coming down. Temperatures really took a nose dive and we were down around 8 degrees last night. This morning we’ve got about the same temps. The snow started coming down in the night and we’ve got at least 5″ already. It’s still falling now and the radar shows the snow will continue. Local schools are open but roads are snow-packed and icy. Too cold for the salt to work right now. There isn’t any wind to speak of so visibility isn’t too bad (aside from vehicles stirring the snow). Our groomers were finally able to run last night and will again tonight! There’s no business like snow business and today business is good. Wish we could’ve had this on Friday so more riders could enjoy the whole weekend. Hit the trails if you can today–it’s going to be good riding. Back roads and shoulders have plenty of crossing snow. Just remember to dress for it! Happy MLK Day to you all and be safe out there.

Indian River Trail Report – 01/18

onditions are Fair to Poor, depending on woods or railroad grade. We saw some light snow yesterday but it didn’t amount to much overall. The radar shows snow moving in–it should arrive early this afternoon. Chance of snow is 100% and accumulations are predicted to be 2′ overnight. Saturday is going to bring more snow–up to 3′ and windy conditions. Now there is some chance of ice/rain pellets late in the day but it’s too early to tell just yet. Sunday shows up to another inch of snow. There isn’t enough snow for our groomers to work with today, but they hope to go out this weekend. We need 4-6′ more for the tractors to run. If you go out you won’t think conditions are that great–there are deep ruts in areas of the trail near Weber Lake so be cautious. Even though there’s some snow out there, don’t go riding with the expectation of excellent conditions. Hopefully today/overnight will bring us the predicted accumulations and turn this into a great weekend.
