Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 02/01
While the days are milder this week, overnight grooming is being planned weather permitting. Day time temps will be in the 30’s through Sunday with temps at night in the 20’s. Best riding is early in the day as trails will soften up by mid-afternoon with the milder weather.
GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports trails overall are in fair to good condition. Grooming is planned for tonight weather
permitting. 11N has a water spot on it in which you can get around. Signs are posted so please use caution.
Also on trails 11N and 160 closer to the lake the snow is marginal. LOGGING IS PLANNED OFF SOUTH BOUNDARY ROAD SO WATCH FOR SIGNS AND PLOWED AREAS. 11S is in fair to good condition, logging is planned for the remaining of the season closer to the Wisconsin border signs are posted, use caution. Please remember the logging trucks have the right of way so when and if you see them please pull over….
LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS report groomers went out last night grooming and will groom at night weather permitting. Trails are in fair to good condition. Watch corners, they may be icy and obey stop signs PLEASE!
U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET report all trails are being groomed at night weather permitting. Overall trails are in fair to good condition. Again watch for icy corners.
Keep in mind the groomers will be out day and night, so watch for them,and PLEASE pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Please use caution on corners in all areas they may be icy…
ABOUT THE ICE:
It’s time for our usual caution. There is no such thing as "safe ice" due to underwater currents. If you choose to go out, be sure you talk to locals where you intend to ride for specific information about the ice depth and other factors…be aware you will be riding at your own risk.

Here are a few gas station updates. The gas station in Paulding is closed so plan ahead for filling up. On the up side the gas station in Marenisco is now open.
On February 4th there will be a snowmobile radar run on Lake Gogebic in front of the Gogebic Lodge. There will be a 1000-foot plowed track – stock and modified classed(trophies)-8a.m. to 4p.m.-cost is $25.00 which includes 4 runs and a T Shirt.
