Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/28

Our winter is here and in full force. We received about a foot of new snow since Wednesday and our temps are in the 20’s. This will help out our trails but the down side is we are suppose to get warmer temps this weekend this will not help our trail system. We will just have to wait and see what the weather brings. Here is your trail reports.

Western U.P. Snow Shakers (GRTA)

Trail 2 From Ironwood to Bessemer is groomed and is in very good condition. From Bessemer to Wakefield the trail is packed and is in fair condition. From Wakefield to Marenisco it is groomed and is in good to very good condition.

Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula the trail is groomed and is in good to very good condition.

Trail 160 is groomed and is in fair condition. Please use caution you will encounter some wet areas especially when you get close to Bald Mountain. There is a large water hole in this area.

Reminder that trails 11 north and 11 south are closed for this winter season. Also Trail 11 between trail 11N and 102 is not groomed due to the closure of 11N.

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS, RIDING ON A UNMARKED TRAIL MAY RESULT IN THE CLUB LOOSING EASEMENT TO THE PROPERTY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! WE HAVE ALREADY LOST EASEMENT ON TRAIL 2 WHERE WE HAVE THE REROUTE, ALSO ON TRAIL 11N.

January 28th, 2016 Lake Gogebic Area Groomers Report:
Although we received about 6 – 8 inches of snow from Tuesday night thru Wednesday morning and so far Wednesday night we’ve received almost a foot of new snow (at least at the north end of Lake Gogebic) predictions for this weekend are calling for highs to top 36 on “Saturday and 34 on Sunday. IF we get these temperatures the trails will be wet and will not hold a good groom and grooming will only be done over the nighttime hours. The beginning of February looks to finally be bringing in some more winter like conditions.
Continue to watch for logging truck traffic over a portion of Trail 102, and always remember to respect the trucks and give them the right of way at all times – for your safety. No problems to report on any of our other trails at this time. Please remember to always ride to the right and single file to prevent accidents, especially on blind corners.

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/19

With blue sky and lots of sunshine what a great day to get out and enjoy a great day. Our temps will be in the teens for the next few days with lows in the single digits.

The GRTA now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting Trail 2 from Ironwood to Bessemer is groomed and is in very good condition, from Bessemer to Wakefield it is in fair condition and needs more snow before they can groom this section. Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is groomed and is in good condition.

Trail 8 from Wakefield to Tula is groomed and is in good condition.

And Trail 160 was groomed on the 16th and is in fair condition but please watch out for wet spots. This trail has some poor spots on it so use caution.

Trail 11N and 11S are closed this winter. Just a reminder Trail 11 from Trail 102 to 11N is not being groomed due to the closed of Trail 11 N.

The Lake Gogebic Groomers are reporting with the cold weather and snow we received this past weekend help with our trails. With the busy weekend our groomers out dragging the trails and getting them back in shape. Trail 8 near the county line groomers are still working on filling in the wet spot, along with the wet spot on Trail on south. We advise against riding on the highway to avoid the wet spot on trail 8 west as many sleds have be doing. This poses as a safety hazard to sleds and cars along with the possibility of getting ticketed by the law enforcement.

The Watersmeet Groomers report that their groomers will be running daily and the whole system is in very good condition.
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet is very good.
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet to Trail 107 is very good.
Trail 3 north of Trail 2 to Bond Falls and Trail 8 is very good.
Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to Land O’Lakes WI is very good
Trail 13 south of Trail 2 going towards Cisco Chain of Lakes, WI is in very good condition.
