Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/04
We are stilling waiting for Mother Nature to work her magic. Our temps this coming week will be in the 20’s and low 30’s during the day and 20’s at night. We have a few snow showers in the forecast so we just have to wait. Over all conditions are poor.
Please remember it is still early season riding and we are encountering a lot of wet spots use caution.
The former Gogebic Range Trail Authority now known as the Snow Shakers are reporting: Trail 2 from Ironwood to Wakefield has been rolled. Trail 11N and 11S are closed this year. Please remember it is still early season riding so you will encounter wet spots and bare spots so ride with caution.
The Lake Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting: Things remain status quo. We are hoping for more snow and colder temps to improve conditions so we can start “grooming” as usual.
Our trails have some snow, but really not enough to validate “grooming”. Many trails have been panned to pack them down. It has been a very slow start, but we are doing the best we can with what we have to work with. Almost all of the trails here and in the western UP are VERY wet – some are impassable. Hopefully some colder temperatures will firm up those wet areas. It may be necessary to reroute 1S towards Marenisco as there is a really bad waterhole there. 8W is very, very wet also. The groomers will be stopping on the trails as they are clearing branches etc. from the wet snow a couple weeks ago as well as checking conditions so keep an eye out for them. Please, always ride with caution and stay to the right of the trail – looking out for other sledders, groomers or traffic where trails cross roadways.
Watersmeet Groomers are reporting: Groomers were out flattening and packing down the trails but more snow is need to go out and groom. Please use caution when riding it is early season riding with a lot of wet spots.
