Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 01/23

Temperatures will be in the low 30’s Friday and Saturday, then cooling down to the teens on Sunday.

The Gogebic Range Trail Authority Groomers Report:
Trail 2 from Ironwood to Bessemer has been groomed and is in good condition, and Bessemer to Wakefield is fair. Trail 2 to Marenisco and trail 160 have been groomed and are in good to very good condition. Trail 160 still has logging activity so use caution. Trail 11 north is in fair condition. The water hole is frozen, but still use caution. Trail 11 south is closed due to logging operations. Trail 8 has been groomed and is in good condition.

Lake Gogebic Groomer’s Report:
Once again, temps are hovering a little too high for really good conditions on the trails. However, snow showers are in the forecast and we have a cool down to look forward to for Sunday and into next week.
The big news is a reroute over the area where trails 1, 102 and 8 west meet. Work will begin on Monday, Jan. 26th and run thru the remainder of the season. Watch for changes and new signing in this area.

The Watersmeet Groomer’s report:
Groomers are running daily and the trails are in good condition. They are doing their best keeping up with the heavy traffic on weekends. Warmer temps Saturday will make it difficult for the trails to set up, but a cool down to the teens on Sunday will be a big help. Please understand what the groomers are up against on these busy weekends.
Please follow the orange barrels and stay on trail going across Cisco Chain.

Please remember groomers are out both day and night, so watch for them, please pull over or at least slow down and wait for the operator to signal you by whenever you see them. Groomers have the right of way.

JUST ONE MORE REMINDER: PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUBS LOSING EASEMENT FOR THAT TRAIL AND IT CAN ALSO RESULT IN A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.
