Newberry Trail Report – Visit Newberry – 03/03
Please be careful around corners there is ice under the snow in the curves. We have had warm days and cold nights the past two days. Some areas have dirt on them. Please stay on trails and try to avoid private property. Due to heavy traffic and warmer weather we did haul snow into the trailhead at Timber Charlie’s to Slaughter House Road. We are trying to make your ride more enjoyable and minimize any wear & tear to your sled. All trails are in good/fair condition but we have had a little meltdown due to warmer weather so please be careful and enjoy the riding. The trails in town are just in fair condition but as you go out north they get better and are in good condition. We only got about 4-6 inches of snow Friday night. Warm weather forcast for the up coming week. Mid 30’s Trail #9 north is in fair condition.Watch for water on the trail when leaving the staging area near the railroad tracks, Once you get past the 3 mile staging area things get better. The base is 6-8 inches north and groomers are reporting fair conditions. Be carful on the straight away between M-123 and 3 mile staging area, mogals form there quick depending on how many sleds go over it. There are some bare spots close to town. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE IS LOGGING ON THE TRAIL ABOUT 8 MILES NORTH, SO WATCH FOR LOGGING TRUCKS Trail #45 North is in fair condition with a 6-8 inch base, but, there are 2 logging areas on it. One north, and one south, of the Skyline Trail Head. It is plowed and can be rough at times. The trail from Co. Rd. 500 to the Falls is in fair shape. Due to ice it took the groomer 3 attempts to get up the hill just south of M-123 Trail #9 south to Hemlock Ridge road (trail 2) has up to a 3 inch base and is in fair condition. Trail #2 From the Naubinway split to Rexton is in fair condition with up to a 3 inch base. Trail #473 has about 7 miles of plowed road from Rexton south to Epoufette due to logging in the area. Please watch for trucks and deer in the area. The base is marginal to 3 inches and in fair condition. South of 4 Corners going to Rexton trail has about 41/2 miles of plowed trails due to logging on the Luce/Mackinac county lines. Trail #473 Rexton to Trout lake is in fair condition with up to a 3 inch base.
