LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming – 02/22
The Lake Gogebic Area has received 6-8” of new snow over the past 2-3 days and it has really helped out tremendously on our trails. The new snow mixed with what we had, and it set up nicely with the cold temperatures at night. Trails in the Lake Gogebic Area reported to be in good to very good condition and groomer Dave has reported that the South end of the Lake and Marenisco are in excellent condition! We are forecasted to receive about 8” over the next 36 hours and if that happens groomers will be out in force to get all the trails set but then we should be in excellent condition!
The only challenge area is the corridor above Timberline Sports which receives the most traffic as it is a connector to major trails. New snow will certainly help that corridor out!
Here’s the skinny from our groomers:
• Trail 102: was groomed this morning! • Trail 8 west – will have a groomer going down tonight and they will check to see what utility company has got accomplished and will report tomorrow on status that that trail opening. • Trail 8 East: will be groomed tonight. • 13 North: will be groomed tonight. • 1 south – grooming today and will also be grooming the ditch line.
So far this season we have received over 170” of snow – and winter is far from over! Come on us and ride – we’ve got the best conditions around! Thanks to all of you who visit and support our area and our businesses, and thanks to all who work hard to make the Lake Gogebic Area one of the very best snowmobile destinations in the country!

FROM Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> I need to post this image again because WOW. I can't recall the last time nearly all of the United States was forecast to be below average. Before anyone gets on the "SEE CLIMATE CHANGE IS FAKE" train... one of these below average maps DOES NOT negate the other 500 above average ones. Trends, folks. Trends. Nothing is a straight line. The warming temperature trend line is full of peaks and valleys with an overall increasing trend. 🙂 #miweather #keweenaw#westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylord#cadillac#traversecityI need to post this image again because WOW. After Thanksgiving, a large portion of the U.S. will likely see below normal temperatures into early December. And of course, there's southern Florida. 🌞
FROM The U.P. Superior Snowmobile Club >> Just wind and rain here in Mass City! 🙁 We wish to thank Jim F. for removing 5 large trees off of Trail 3 yesterday! Unfortunately there may be more after today's wind. #ontonagon #keweenaw#westernup #miweather ... See MoreSee Less
FROM Gogebic Area Grooming >> Just to confirm.. We do have enough interest in brushing the access trail this Saturday at 9am Eastern time meeting at the Groomer barn. It's not a long stretch but badly overgrown. Bring boot's as it's usually muddy. If enough people show up and this get's accomplished early our trail 1n to White Pine needs a bunch of signage. So plenty of work for the day. Then on to our next situation. A bridge on 13s or East side of lake Gogebic needs redecked. This trail will not be opened until this bridge is repaired. To say we need help is an understatement. Plans are for bridge repair asap. Repair needs completed before Deer season (Nov. 15th) Rain, snow or shine. It should only take a day but dependent on if we have helper's. The access trail, 1n signage and bridge repair are all accessible by vehicle. Again questions contact Greg @ 309-208-8624 #lakegogebic#westernup... See MoreSee Less
