Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/18
Gaylord Bureau – January 18, 2024 – 9:10 a.m. The snow we received last week and over the weekend gave our trails the boost they needed. Groomers have been out during the day and at night and trails are in good shape. We could use some moisture in the air to help pack the snow down to create a better base. There may still be areas where snow is drifting, but the groomers keep making their passes through all the trails. Check back for updates and trail conditions. Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous! The pics below are from last night. It happened on trail 6 out towards Moorestown. Luckily he didnt get hurt. Keep your eyes peeled. Sleds were out and about all day wednesday. I think its going to be a decent weekend. We sure could use more snow. The snow that has been groomed and run on so more snow would be nice on them. This is the most snow we have had in years. My thoughts are that its gonna be a big weekend, if you havent seent the weather for next week its not looking good. Monday, tues, wed gonna be above 32 with chances of rain showers. Who knows how long the warm up will be. It might actually help to create a better base if it does get cold enough. So once again the roller coaster game looks like its going to hit us. Highest accumulations tonight will be along the straits while the typical northwesterly snow belts of northern lower can expect around a foot this Wednesday into Thursday morning. Strong gusty winds will produce areas of rapidly dropping visibilities, which could result periods of whiteouts on roadways (especially Wednesday evening through Thursday morning). It'll be very windy as well, especially later Wednesday into Thursday. We could have gusts over 40mph over land and 50mph over the lakes and lakeshore areas. This is will cause extremely difficult travel yet again.
We'll have light snow Wednesday morning for the commute with heavy snow in the existing lake effect heavy prone areas. The Wednesday evening commute looks like garbage since we'll have strong winds and heavy snow coming down for ALL areas of Michigan. I do apologize, I ran out of time for drawing my own snow maps tonight. However, the HRRR has done wonderfully with the lake effect so far. I will gladly endorse what it suggests for potential snow tonight and tomorrow.
I'll be issuing my own map tomorrow for Wednesday night / Thursday's clipper system and lake effect, though!
