Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/10

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 02/10

Well……it’s a start! It’s WHITE again! Hard to believe that on February 10th we would be so excited about receiving a dusting, to a couple inches of snow, in the higher elevations – but WE ARE! VERY EXCITED!

For all of you that did not give up on this winter, we truly believe the weather has made a change, FINALLY, for the better! The extended forecast has plenty of cold temps and Lake Superior is wide open, prime for adding some beautiful LES ❄️ to any good clippers/system snow we can get! Please note: WE NEED A LOT – but it’s the Keweenaw, and those that are familiar with the area, know that A LOT can come very quickly, when the conditions are right!

Last February we got dumped on with 26 inches of snow in 4 days! That is not uncommon for the area – as we all saw just this January when we had about a week of winter – with 60 plus inches of snow that dumped in a little over a week!

Keep doing those snow dances! ❄️💃🕺

Don’t forget, it is always possible to keep your reservations and still come up and enjoy the Keweenaw! There are so many fun, different activities! You can help support the area businesses! This lack of winter has really had a very negative impact on not only the businesses but the areas service industry employees too! When out talking with many of these business owners and servers, employees, etc…. they definitely feel the financial impact BUT they also MISS SEEING ALL OF YOU! Adam Garvey shared some photos with us and said “Get up here! The Keweenaw needs you!” Adam will be waiting to serve you and thank you for coming up at The Mariner North along with so many others at all the areas favorite stops!!

Are trail gates closed on Trail 5 from Champion up to Big Bay and other trails around there or can we still sneak out? With this much snow, we can probably can’t see the gates! Lol.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Winter Storm and Blizzard Warnings have been issued! Blizzard warnings are in effect for Baraga and Marquette Counties. Heavy wet snow will arrive later tonight into Thursday morning as a low pressure system lifts into the Great Lakes. Strong northerly winds are expected and blowing snow is likely. Widespread 8-12 inches are forecast; higher amounts in excess of 2 feet are forecast across the higher terrain of Marquette and Baraga Counties into Thursday morning. Note: A sharp gradient in snow totals is expected just inland from the Great Lake-especially along the Lake Superior shoreline in Baraga and Marquette Counties.
