FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/15
Suprise, A little snow fell. Its about 9 a.m. thursday morning and about 2 inches of snow has fallen in Grayling and Frederic so far. Schools are closed but I cant believe they closed for what has happened so far. I have talked to several people this morning as I left town yesterday.
Here are my thoughts. We need a heck of alot of snow to be able to ride. Yesterday as I was walking around the building I could see rock hard frozen sled tracks from 2 sleds that must have rode thru last week during the mud bog. There tracks stood out big as day. Thats what the ground is like underneath. I am going to stick with my feeling that we need alot more of system snow than lake effect snow. I know we have to start somewhere with new snow. The good part is its supposed to stay cold.
Pics below are from my cameras this morning. Thanks for checking in. Pete
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Additional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
