Attention Northern Michigan Snowmobilers! We’ve received approximately 6 inches of fresh snow overnight Friday, with forecasts predicting continued lake-effect snow throughout the weekend. While the current trail conditions are suitable for riding, Please use caution some trails are showing dirt. We will keep you updated on any additional changes to the weather. Please check back for updates and trails conditions.
Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous!
As always, check back with us for updates and weather reports.
About 1 more inch fell since my update yesterday. From my cameras I could still see the one set of car tracks thru my drive at Sledheads. So I am still sticking with my thoughts from yesterday that it would only be kind of good for the first couple sleds thru. I see all kinds of posts on people that want to or are coming up to ride saying its only carbides and slides, all I know is I wouldnt take my sled out with what we have. I dont like it anymore than everyone else but thats just the way it is. On a brighter note I met Trevor Gruhn yesterday who is a regular reader from down by Kzoo. I fixed him up with a new Sledheads T and sweatshirt. He like everyone else wishes there was more snow too. We need a really heavy duty system snow to hit us. I talked to David over at the swamp last night and he said he only had 2 sleds in all day yesterday and that was about 9 last night. Thanks for checking in and if you do ride please ride safely. Pete
FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> There is a light fog and hazy in Frederic this morning with 31 degrees out there. Pics below I took at several trail crossings this morning. Still alot of snow in the woods and I have seen worse looking trails but with the forcasts for the next few days what little we have is going to deteriorate so I say use it while it is here. ONce the rain starts it will ruin things. Boy I do not like saying things like this but what can you do. Snow chants may help turn the rain to snow. Thanks for checking in. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. The highest snowfall accumulations in the U.P. are expected from Manistique eastward through the Mackinac Bridge with 2" to 5" inches of wet snow possible. Slippery road conditions are expected. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. If traveling to or from the Lower Peninsula, plan for additional travel time as there is greater chance for 4" to 6" inches of wet snowfall across much of the northern L.P. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising#newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylordLake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. WEATHER UPDATE via Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> We crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24). As stated with our earlier posts, the precip types should be a snow/sleet mix as you head north of the I-96 corridor. The Saginaw Bay, Thumb and northern half of the lower peninsula should remain all snow. The tricky part is the snow and freezing rain potential south of I-96, including the I-94 corridor. As of this post, icy roads have shut down portions of I-94 west of Jackson. Please take your time on the roads today and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskey #soo #newberry#straitsareaWe crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24).
