FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/23 It sure doesn’t look like Feb 23. The ground froze up again overnight but now its just rock hard frozen mud. Snow piles continue to melt down and I would guess the side bys will be out and about this weekend. It seems so strange not having any snow out there. On the bright side I have had a couple of good trips when I am usually here in Sledheads, I think I might have to go on another one just to keep myself entertained. I did wake up this morning thinking about the mountain man hill climb in Valdez Alaska, that happens in the middle of April and it is a great event to attend and watch. Even the snow in the black hills is light this season as thats another place that I like to ride. If you come by and my truck is here stop in and make sure I am awake. Thanks for checking in. Thankfully I had not heard of any snowmobile deaths this season until yesterday where someone went thru the ice up in the u.p. STAY OFF LAKES I have never seen a winter with ice the way it has been. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency?
