FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/28 Hard to believe it went from 71 degrees yesterday to 18 degrees this wednesday morning at Lake Margrethe. It howling and blowing outside and just barely a little white out there. I was up at 5 this morning and it was just wet with slight rain out there. What a winter. Every night at 11 Camp Grayling plays taps and it was so calm last night I could hear it while I was laying in bed. So it went from very calm to very windy very fast. The pics below are from saturday in Frederic at the SWamp and Frederic Inn. Snowfall totals of 12-18" are expected across areas southeast of Grand Traverse Bay near Kalkaska. Localized amounts of 18"+ are possible by Monday morning. Snowfall rates of 1" to 3" per hour will lead to rapid accumulations on roads and near-zero visibility underneath heaviest banding, creating dangerous travel conditions. Finally a year with rideable snow on December 1st. Sleds have been riding in all morning, first phone call came at 7:30 this morning and trailers are parked everywhere. I would guess another eight inches of snow over night and trying to keep up plowing is a trick. For those of you that have parked trailers at my storage lot I am not going to take any trailers at this time as I am already tight on room down there. Just check with me ahead of time to see if I can get some room down there. Parking out back behind my shop will be just daily and by donation. I would say we have to be about the 2 foot mark for the snow this week. Still the same story at Lake Margrethe by my house and I havent even dropped my blade yet at home. The snow is all north and west of Frederic. I cant even remember the last time we had snow on December 1. The snow is supposed to keep it up all week so I imagine next weekend will be really busy. Would be nice to see a 34° sunny day and melt it down a foot and freeze it good and hard Trails are great! Are you measuring the snow banks where you plowed, I just left LON there is around 24" out there. Waters had around 12" when we came through. This where we are staying!
