Grand Marais Trail Report – 02/28
GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. – 02/28 Grooming update: While we were hoping for a lot of snow we are only at about 2-4 inches. It is still snowing so we’ll keep everyone posted. Due to the fact that we don’t have any base on the main trails, we will not be able to go out and groom today. We did have riders come in from Pine Stump and Wetmore this morning. They made it into Grand Marais from both areas but both groups said trails were ok but not great and difficult to get into town. There were lots of big drifts in spots on the trail. Keep in mind there is still snow in the woods so if you want to trailer out and ride the woods you should be ok for a few more days. <> <> Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. on Facebook >>>> <> Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report Friday December 27th, 2024 - 12:38 pm POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend. 37 degrees this morning and raining. Looks like the next couple of days are supposed to be the same, or even warmer and more rain. We sure were off to a good start and then it turns to chit. I hate you Mother Nature! I can`t take this anymore. My business can`t take this either!
Here`s an idea. I know most of you have the week off. Why not just come on UP and get away from the rat race down there? Come and enjoy all the peace and tranquility the U.P. has to offer. There are other things to do other than ride. Check out the Falls in the winter or check out the Locks over in the Soo. The freighters are still sailing. ALL the businesses will welcome you with open arms!
It looks like the weather pattern will change by the end of next week. I sure hope so. I think I`ll get an early start and go cry in my beer now.

As stated with our earlier posts, the precip types should be a snow/sleet mix as you head north of the I-96 corridor. The Saginaw Bay, Thumb and northern half of the lower peninsula should remain all snow.
The tricky part is the snow and freezing rain potential south of I-96, including the I-94 corridor. As of this post, icy roads have shut down portions of I-94 west of Jackson.
Please take your time on the roads today and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey #soo #newberry #straitsareaWe crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24).
