Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/01
Gaylord Bureau – December 1, 2024 9:40 a.m. Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and our trails got hit with over 30 inches of snow over the holiday weekend. The rumors are true and it’s still coming down! Trails are officially open and groomers are running today. Expect lots of fresh snow and watch for drifting. Please be patient while groomers get our trails into excellent condition with all this fresh snow! A few things to remember about groomers: Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. Sleds have been riding in all morning, first phone call came at 7:30 this morning and trailers are parked everywhere. I would guess another eight inches of snow over night and trying to keep up plowing is a trick. For those of you that have parked trailers at my storage lot I am not going to take any trailers at this time as I am already tight on room down there. Just check with me ahead of time to see if I can get some room down there. Parking out back behind my shop will be just daily and by donation. I would say we have to be about the 2 foot mark for the snow this week. Still the same story at Lake Margrethe by my house and I havent even dropped my blade yet at home. The snow is all north and west of Frederic. I cant even remember the last time we had snow on December 1. The snow is supposed to keep it up all week so I imagine next weekend will be really busy. Snowfall totals of 12-18" are expected across areas southeast of Grand Traverse Bay near Kalkaska. Localized amounts of 18"+ are possible by Monday morning. Snowfall rates of 1" to 3" per hour will lead to rapid accumulations on roads and near-zero visibility underneath heaviest banding, creating dangerous travel conditions. Would be nice to see a 34° sunny day and melt it down a foot and freeze it good and hard Trails are great! Are you measuring the snow banks where you plowed, I just left LON there is around 24" out there. Waters had around 12" when we came through. Good for u guys about time the snow comes back!!!!
