Benzie Area Trail Report – 12/05
BENZIE / MANISTEE UPDATE via Benzie Manistee Snowbirds – 12/05 Good new everyone, we have enough snow now and will be sending out our groomers tomorrow to start panning and grooming our trail system. Following is important information about our trail system: • There is active logging activity impacting trail 3 north of US31 just past Maple City Hwy. The groomed trail has been graded down to dirt and there are logging trucks using this section of the trail. I would recommend that you do not use this section of trail at this time. According to the DNR, most of this activity should be completed in about a week. • The private property gate in Bear Lake on Chief road will remain closed until December 16. This is at the request of property owners. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat.
