Ontonagon Trail Report – 12/07

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP – 12/07

Today’s update is brought to you by Roxey’s Bar & Grill in downtown Ontonagon! A fantastic destination today with great trail conditions to and from! Trails that are rideable are in good shape, the others, heed warnings! Please support the sponsors that support us!!!

Trail 137: starts thinning the last 1/2 mile as you drop north into Ontonagon. Plenty of snow and we even covered the bare spot underneath the bridge. Groomed last night

Trail 12 from 137 east to Greenland: Mega water holes. Likely impassable for most riders. Rolled and packed for first timers Thursday night. Riding not advised.

Trail 12 from Ontonagon WEST to 101: CLOSED, BRIDGE OUT. Opening Jan 2025.

Trail 13: Rated good to very good. Deepest trail we found. Groomed up very well last night. Groomed in road route ditch trail

Trail 101: Very good to excellent. Groomed up last night.

Trail 12 from 101 to White Pine: fair to good. Water holes will reopen today, but it had a ton of snow along the power lines! Be mindful of driveway crossings! Also groomed in road route ditch trail.

Trail 1 to Trail 11: Poor, but rideable. Snow farming operations turned it to snirt as snow levels dropped as you went north (very typical as you go to the lake).

Trail 1 to Lake Of The Clouds: Fair. Thin snow. Groomed last night.

Trail 11: Has not been groomed or rolled, but should be a great ride on the unplowed south Boundary road.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A significant warm up is poised to impact the region beginning on Christmas Day and continuing through the weekend. Daily high temperatures will range from the 30s to the 40s. Well above normal temperatures combined with increasing chances for rain will likely degrade the ice conditions on area lakes and ponds. SIDNAW - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Sno Valley Riders Snowmobile Club >> Groomer Report;
Trail Condition: See Report Below
Last Groomed: December 23rd, 2024
Reported On: December 24th, 2024 @ 11:32am
We have been grooming the eastern portion of our trail system only, from Trout Creek to the end of trail 174. That part is real nice the farther east and north that you go. The west end just doesn’t have enough snow.
With the warm temps we will be shut down for a few days.
We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
Please ride on the RIGHT side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs!
Stay on the trail, if you don’t we could lose trail permissions on private property.
We now have the Groomer Trackers installed and working on our groomers.
We groom every day that the weather conditions and equipment allow. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns. #westernup

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. The highest snowfall accumulations in the U.P. are expected from Manistique eastward through the Mackinac Bridge with 2" to 5" inches of wet snow possible. Slippery road conditions are expected. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. If traveling to or from the Lower Peninsula, plan for additional travel time as there is greater chance for 4" to 6" inches of wet snowfall across much of the northern L.P. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #newberry #soo #straitsarea #petoskey #gaylordLake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMING via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Gogebic Area Grooming Sunday evening report. We're going to continue grooming what trails are groomable through Christmas eve. Christmas day the guy's are off to enjoy a day with their families. Then back at it Thursday.. We'll access the weather and consider then, whether or not to send machines out. If not, we have much needed maintenance before the next snow storm. 102, 13n were groomed tonight. 1n and 1s are being groomed early morning. We're still trying to figure out the Groomer Tracker issue on our #9 machine but that should be taken care within the next few days. Thank you to Groomer Steve for the video. ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

Ok, im an old rider, but new to the science of groooming. When its hard packed like that, why dozer off the top to fill it in? Why not use the drag to fill and keep the hardpack intact?

How much snow is on the ground? It looks like a warm up next week, debating on making the trip

Years ago we would do 1 night ride in stays and the old couple had breakfast, my guess is those days are long gone

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Good morning! Here's the groomer report for Saturday evening from the Bergland Area Groomer's. 13n to Rockland groomed and good. 8w-groomed what we can. Still the problem child, we just need more snow to correct the problem (use caution). 102 groomed and In good condition. On 102 the snow bridge has either collapsed or eroded away. This section is near the top of 102 or approximately 4 miles from South Boundary Rd. Caution signs will be placed on the next run. 1n was groomed and is in good condition. We have an operator coming in early this morning to cover 1s and 8e. So be aware a groomer will be on the trails. We'll caption pictures to explain some of the issues. Also shout out to North Country Snowmobile Club UP for waking up our groomer sleeping on the job!! ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic #westernup #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less
