Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/07
Gaylord Bureau – December 7, 2024 9:50 a.m. Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area got hit with over 40 inches of snow to start out winter. All trails are open and in good shape but there may be some choppy spots due to heavy traffic. Groomers are out working on it to keep them smooth. Please remember that even with the fresh snow we received, we are still building up our base. While it does look like there may be a warm up this weekend, that will help build our base. Groomers will run in the evening as conditions and temperatures allow. A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Want to be ready? My back parking lot is full and people are having a problem finding trailer parking. There is light snow falling and we had a couple inches since last night. Its now noon thirty and still snow in the air and riders all over the place. Almost like the good old days when there were riders everywhere. Thankfully the temp is still at 29 degrees. A few sleds out and about but its going downhill from here. I ended up riding yesterday to Grayling and then one lap around Lake Margrethe for a total of a 40 mile ride. Light snow will begin to blossom into more widespread snow late tonight, resulting in potentially unpleasant travel conditions for the Monday morning commute. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. Its 10:45 a.m. and we have about an inch of new snow this morning. Nothing fell overnight. There was barely any sled traffic both saturday and sunday around Frederic. They say we are going to get a few inches today but there is still forcasts of warmer temps coming. I was hoping for a 3 or 4 inch thick snow by about noon so I could go out and try to take a ride. As stated with our earlier posts, the precip types should be a snow/sleet mix as you head north of the I-96 corridor. The Saginaw Bay, Thumb and northern half of the lower peninsula should remain all snow.
The tricky part is the snow and freezing rain potential south of I-96, including the I-94 corridor. As of this post, icy roads have shut down portions of I-94 west of Jackson.
