Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/09

FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 12/09

2 feet in 2 days, that’s about how much snow we have lost. Trails are a mud bog this morning. Its incredible how great things were and now how bad they are. So the roller coaster of weather begins. There were a few sleds out and about on sunday and there was a father son team that rode in from Mancelona. Pics below are the trail crossings just north of the high school and of a truck from Tennessee with a good license plate on it. So the wait is on for rideable snow now. Weather forecast for the week doesnt seem to promising. Thanks for checking in. Pete

POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend.
For that reason, Kryptonite Weather and I are going to the UP of Michigan to chase the lake effect later next week. We will have more updates on plans as we get closer. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylordThe pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Twas the night before Christmas, and we are expecting things to remain pretty quiet, right on through Christmas and into Christmas Night. Good traveling weather is largely on tap as you head on your way and start to make tracks. Lows below freezing could make a few spots slick, so stay cautious to get safely home on your trip. If planning for the weekend, here is a peek…it will become mild and moist to wrap up the week. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyTwas the night before Christmas, and we are expecting things to remain pretty quiet, right on through Christmas and into Christmas Night. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. The highest snowfall accumulations in the U.P. are expected from Manistique eastward through the Mackinac Bridge with 2" to 5" inches of wet snow possible. Slippery road conditions are expected. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. If traveling to or from the Lower Peninsula, plan for additional travel time as there is greater chance for 4" to 6" inches of wet snowfall across much of the northern L.P. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #newberry #soo #straitsarea #petoskey #gaylordLake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> We crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24).
As stated with our earlier posts, the precip types should be a snow/sleet mix as you head north of the I-96 corridor. The Saginaw Bay, Thumb and northern half of the lower peninsula should remain all snow.
The tricky part is the snow and freezing rain potential south of I-96, including the I-94 corridor. As of this post, icy roads have shut down portions of I-94 west of Jackson.
Please take your time on the roads today and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey #soo #newberry #straitsareaWe crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24).
