Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/09
Gaylord Bureau – December 9, 2024 9:00 a.m. We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area got hit with over 50 inches of snow to start out winter. Between temperatures warming up, light rain and heavy traffic over the weekend, trails are rated in fair condition. Groomers have stopped running until temperatures drop or we get fresh snow. Don’t worry, there’s already some in the forecast! A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Trails are a mud bog this morning. Its incredible how great things were and now how bad they are. So the roller coaster of weather begins. There were a few sleds out and about on sunday and there was a father son team that rode in from Mancelona. Pics below are the trail crossings just north of the high school and of a truck from Tennessee with a good license plate on it. So the wait is on for rideable snow now. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
