We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area got hit with over 50 inches of snow to start out winter.
Between temperatures warming up, light rain and heavy traffic over the weekend, trails are rated in fair condition. Groomers have stopped running until temperatures drop or we get fresh snow. Don’t worry, there’s already some in the forecast!
A few things to remember about groomers:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. – Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night. – Have fun and stay safe!

2 feet in 2 days, thats about how much snow we have lost. Trails are a mud bog this morning. Its incredible how great things were and now how bad they are. So the roller coaster of weather begins. There were a few sleds out and about on sunday and there was a father son team that rode in from Mancelona. Pics below are the trail crossings just north of the high school and of a truck from Tennessee with a good license plate on it. So the wait is on for rideable snow now. Weather forecast for the week doesnt seem to promisiing. Thanks for checking in. Pete
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A little patchy drizzle or sprinkles to linger this evening…otherwise rainfall is pretty much done until tomorrow. After some patchy morning fog, additional precipitation returns Sunday afternoon as rain and snow showers track across the northwoods. Higher terrain areas could see some accumulations of wet-heavy snowfall by Monday morning. The long range outlook indicates a return to winter by the end of the week! POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend. For that reason, Kryptonite Weather and I are going to the UP of Michigan to chase the lake effect later next week. We will have more updates on plans as we get closer. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylordThe pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> There is a light fog and hazy in Frederic this morning with 31 degrees out there. Pics below I took at several trail crossings this morning. Still alot of snow in the woods and I have seen worse looking trails but with the forcasts for the next few days what little we have is going to deteriorate so I say use it while it is here. ONce the rain starts it will ruin things. Boy I do not like saying things like this but what can you do. Snow chants may help turn the rain to snow. Thanks for checking in.
