PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI – 12/09
12/9/24 28 degrees this morning with a 30 mph wind outa the SE and freezing rain…..kinda sucks. Its been in the low 30`s for temps the last couple days too……really sucks. Here`s the scoop on whats been going on since my last report.
We took a machine with a drag on trail #8 to Pine Stump. Groomer Mike C. said it turned out pretty good. The only problem is the loggers have CR 414 (trail #9) plowed down from the East branch of the Two Heart all the way to da Stump. Not sure how long they will be in there but we`ll find out.
Groomers Kevin and Luke took a machine around the Point trails mainly to clear trees. They got `er done and said its ready to be groomed. There is some logging being done on trail #452 but are supposed to be outa there by the end of the week.
Groomers Gerald, Dan (new guy), Dave (also new guy) and myself took 2 machines and headed south of the river mouth. The power line was pretty wet and the Federal Forest section was wet also. We left the gates locked in there. Don`t go around them, you WILL come out WET.
I think we will let things settle for a couple days and wait for the cold temps to return before we get back at it. All I gots fer now.

SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association >> This warm up is not what we need at all. We won't be grooming until we get more snow and cold weather, looks like that not coming until end of next week. The trails in and out of town are thin and all the parking lots are almost dirt and mud. Not what everyone wants to hear including us. We'll update when it cools down again and we can head back out and groom again. Wish we had better news. #seney #newberry... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Our Saturday starts off gloomy with lingering rain and areas of fog. The rain may mix with a little snow over the higher terrain of the west today. Look for the rain to end from south to north late afternoon and evening, then expect dry, but mostly cloudy weather for the rest of the weekend and into Monday. Temperatures stay mild, peaking in the mid/upper 30s during the day and falling back to only as low as the mid/upper 20s at night. Colder weather returning at the start of the the new year will bring a return of lake effect snow. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaOur Saturday starts off gloomy with lingering rain and areas of fog. NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> Well we avoided the heavy rain up here so far. My weather station shows we got around .17 inches of rain. A lot better than what everyone anticipated In the woods the snows at the top of my rubber boots or over I’m sure south and the towns are not good. I just went down the trail a little ways to get a quick video of snow in the woods and on the trail Early season conditions. If the cold comes next week this will set to a heck of a base If I had time I would go for a ride on the seasonal roads and fire lanes worst case Everyone do the snow dance!!! #newberry#snowphotos... POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend. For that reason, Kryptonite Weather and I are going to the UP of Michigan to chase the lake effect later next week. We will have more updates on plans as we get closer. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylordThe pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 12/27/24 37 degrees this morning and raining. Looks like the next couple of days are supposed to be the same, or even warmer and more rain. We sure were off to a good start and then it turns to chit. I hate you Mother Nature! I can`t take this anymore. My business can`t take this either! Here`s an idea. I know most of you have the week off. Why not just come on UP and get away from the rat race down there? Come and enjoy all the peace and tranquility the U.P. has to offer. There are other things to do other than ride. Check out the Falls in the winter or check out the Locks over in the Soo. The freighters are still sailing. ALL the businesses will welcome you with open arms! It looks like the weather pattern will change by the end of next week. I sure hope so. I think I`ll get an early start and go cry in my beer now. Later Groomer Chris #paradise#newberry... See MoreSee Less
