NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA Tahquamenon Area Snowmobile Association – 12/17 Hi everyone. If temps allow we are going to send a groomer North to pinestump tonight. On my drive in this morning there was still a good amount of snow on the trail right along 123 by the logging museum. Thats a good sign that the rest of the trail should be ok as the snow typically gets deeper as you go north. Temps are going to be cooling off the rest of the week as well. In the mean time enjoy this amazing picture of our friends up in Houghton at the Portage lift bridge. <> NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Halfway Lake Cottages, LLC – 12/17 Trail Update 12/17/24 Well we made it through the warm up. We still have a good snowpack in our driveway which is a great sign. Both TASA and Seney groomers are going to go out tonight if the temps cooperate. Judging by the looks of trail 9 along 123 I think we are in good shape still. There was still good snow along the road side and up 9 heading to 455 as far ar I could see. Snow is in the forcast the next few nights with a possibility of 6+ inches. Dont cancel those reservations for this weekend and if you havent booked with us yet we still have openings. Snow accumulations today will be an inch or less, except 1 to 2 inches in the high terrain of Baraga and Marquette counties. The snow showers will diminish later tonight. Attention then turns to a widespread system snow that will develop from west to east across Upper Michigan later Saturday afternoon and evening. The snow will continue Saturday night, then diminish during Sunday morning. Snow accumulations across Upper Michigan by late Sunday morning should range from 2 to 5 inches. All our trails north of M-28 are in good to great shape. Trail 43 heading south is not currently being groomed due to loggers. They are working down there and the road is being plowed from Seney to 10 Curves Rd. We have been down there but not much we can do with it. Your skis will hit rocks and the road is ruff from the all the logging trucks. We can’t groom a trail that is being plowed so please quit messaging us and asking. We probably get 10 messages a day asking. If they leave and we can groom it we will ASAP. We heard they will be down there all winter. Nothing we can do about that folks sorry. Trail 43 north of Seney has lots of snow and in great shape. Trail 431 has lots of snow and is in great shape. Trail 440 has lots of snow and is in great shape. Trail 8 to the Bear Trap has lots of snow and is in great shape. We do have 2 Park & Rides one is in Seney, and the other one is off M-77 north of Seney about 4 miles just past The Fox River. If you’re planing on coming up you are good to go. The snow gets deeper the further north of M-28 you go and the riding is good. If you have a trip planed come on up and enjoy it. We are grooming daily but with all the traffic trails do get beat up at times and we are doing our best to keep up and give you a smooth ride. Remember ride right and stay safe out there. 26 degrees this morning and partly cloudy. We have picked up just a dusting of snow in the last 24 hrs.
I have something for ya`s. For those that know me know I have a hard time rating the trail conditions as excellant, things just have to be perfect. This morning I am calling EXCELLANT for our entire trail system. Plenty of snow and the weather has been cooperating. The only exception is da swamp south of town and I`ll call that section just fair. There is a couple of muddy spots but no big deal if you take it easy and ride smart. Speaking of da swamp.....pay attention here....law enforcement has contacted us and requested additional signage to direct riders to stay on the trail to go thru the swamp instead of riding down the side of M-123 coming into town from the south. Ya`ll know what that means so follow the trail. Soooo.....that covers the trails....COME ON U.P., they are in EXCELLANT shape!!!!
I have something else for ya`s that you may/may not realize and I need to get off my chest, I see this every year and I`ve been grooming for 24 of them! We are volunteers, this is not or job, we do this for YOU. When you see us stopped and out cutting those annoying helmet slappers why don`t you stop just for a couple of minutes and give us a hand? I see it a lot every year, ya just ride by and yell "thank you" and ride away or just sit there and watch...we would appreciate a hand...just for a minute even. Case in point. I had a ride along yesterday. Me and Stan were out trimming about a 100 yard section in da swamp. It was heavily over grown with "face slappers". We had branches laying all over the trail and riders just rode by and yelled "thank you" and drove right over them. It would of saved us 20 minutes of our already 7 hr. run if you would have stopped and helped throw off the limbs. On the other hand, I was out last week and trimming high branches. A guy named Eric N. (I wish I would have gotten his permission to use his last name but I forgot to ask) climbed up on the back of the groomer with me and helped trim about 100 yards of big branches that were creaming the top of the groomer as we drove underneath. Thanks a ton Eric, I owe ya a beer!!! OK, enough of my whinning, just give it a thought the next time you see a volunteer out working!

Our Newberry trail from Curtis /Helmer/ McMillan up to the Newberry trail 9 intersection is being groomed nightly.
Great snow cover and continue building up the base, corners are flat and trails are smooth.
Germfask trail 43 west of Curtis was groomed last night. Groomer reported trail groomed up exceptionally well. A crew was going back out today to do some additional brushing and stumps removal, west of Wolf Rd .
Naubinway trail loop was completely groomed from Curtis, thru Naubinway and then north to Trail 9 intersection. Furlong swamp finally froze up this year and allowing groomers thru and accessing Naubinway pipeline from the West. Again, deep snow and groomed up nicely.
Also wanted to give a HUGE THANKS and recognition to Charlie Vallier (Snowmobile Museum) and John Kurkowski (Hiawatha Sportsman club) for the trail side assistance last night! #curtisarea #newberry #snowphotos
18 degrees this morning and cloudy. We picked up just a dusting of snow in the last 24 hrs. We have a solid 3' on the ground right now around here. Good news about yesterday so here we go........
I was the only one to run yesterday because we wanted a quick back up available just in case I got myself in trouble in da swamp south of town. I took a drag thru there for the first time this year. It turned out decent and plenty ridable. It is narrow in a couple spots and there are a few wet spots you have to be careful of but all in all I`ll rate is as fair. We have some brushing to do in there also. I can`t say this enough.....when you go thru the swamp south of town PLEASE take it easy. If you blast thru a wet spot you WILL get covered with mud, stay on the groomed trail, if you get off trail you may sink up to your armpits in mud, consider youself warned but don`t let me scare you away, it is safe, just slow down and ride smart. Being we have the gates open now law enforcement will not be as lenient on riding down the side of M-123 into town. Now, onto whats going on for today......
Thats easy.....our entire system is gonna be run today. This is the I-500 weekend so the trails are gonna be busy. We will run about around the clock to try and keep U.P.
