We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 80 inches of snow to start out winter!
After a light rain and warming temperatures, trails are in poor shape and generally frozen with some stretches of dirt showing. Grooming has stopped due to the temps, but don’t worry, there’s more snow in the forecast! Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord.
A few things to remember about groomers:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. – Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night. – Have fun and stay safe!

Cold , rutty and hard trails. Thats what we have right now. Just a super lite dusting of new snow overnight and things arent looking promising for the next week and that inclcudes 40s next week. We had that awesome teaser of to much snow and then it left us as fast as it came. The wait will be on again. I certainly do not like putting out these negative things all the time but its the way it is. Pics below are from outside my door this morning. Rock hard and slippeery. Even with we had a foot of new snow its going to take alot to where the groomers can get on it again. Thanks for checking in and we certainly need more snow chants. Pete

SNOW FALL FRIDAY WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> TIMING POST! This is for Friday, February 28th into Saturday, March 1st. Notice the heavy snow across the UP through almost the entire day. This is why some areas will go up to 11" or maybe even slightly more. Winds will be HOWLING. Gusts over 50mph are likely. This can lead to blizzard conditions. I wouldn't be surprised to see some typical problem spots have road closures (M-28). #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie #traversecity #petoskey... WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> Winter ain't done with us just yet! A vigorous clipper system barrels through tomorrow bringing a nice swath of heavy snow to parts of the UP. The further south you go, the later in the day it'll be. Likely around the evening drive home a burst of snow moves through quickly coating the ground. This is along an arctic cold front that drops our temps for several days. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie #traversecity #petoskeyWinter ain't done with us just yet! JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Trail Update: The last 3 days have been 40*+ and very sunny today. Thankfully we didn’t get the inch of rain they were calling for! Thanks to Frank for doing some recon today from the truck. Areas that are bare and really bare now. Everything I’ve seen of the trails it looks like we faired VERY WELL for the weather we had so far this week. As temps drop back down we hope to get our units back on the trial for a pass and get things flattened out for the weekend. Unfortunately looks like early next week is another wave of warm weather so we’ll groom as temps permit. #jordanvalley#gaylord... See MoreSee Less

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its rock hard and 20 degrees out there this morning. I posted a video a bit ago and it was the grayling groomer heading north and like I thought they were coming to pick up the drag they left by the Swamp a few days ago. The hitch is repaired on the groomer but there is no grooming going to happen until or when we get new snow. Its amazing how fast it goes. So to me it looks like we had about 16 days of good riding with all that snow we had. Still one more month to the season so when and if we get more snow be ready to ride it. I have a full tank and am ready in case it does happen. Thanks for checking in. Pete (also time to start the snow chants again.) #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
