Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/19
Gaylord Bureau – December 19, 2024 9:00 a.m. We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 80 inches of snow to start out winter! After a light rain and warming temperatures, trails are in poor shape and generally frozen with some stretches of dirt showing. Grooming has stopped due to the temps, but don’t worry, there’s more snow in the forecast! Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord. Just a super lite dusting of new snow overnight and things arent looking promising for the next week and that inclcudes 40s next week. We had that awesome teaser of to much snow and then it left us as fast as it came. The wait will be on again. I certainly do not like putting out these negative things all the time but its the way it is. Pics below are from outside my door this morning. Rock hard and slippeery. Even with we had a foot of new snow its going to take alot to where the groomers can get on it again. Thanks for checking in and we certainly need more snow chants. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night.
