WATERSMEET / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club – 12/20
Trail boss and is wife took a ride today. We hit every trail on our system except for trail 3 down to Lando which I figure to be similar to trail 2 with some ok and some rocks coming up.Trail 2 West of trail 13 ( the trail to Cisco) was pretty good with more snow the farther west you go. 13 to Cisco was fair, and trail 2 to town and east or Watersmeet was fair to ok at best with areas that had lots of rocks coming up especially in the middle of the trail. Trail 3 north of 2 was ok at best pretty rough because of lack of snow to fill in the potholes until getting close to Bonds Falls there it was pretty good and flat. Because of such a small base and only 3-4” of fluffy snow we will not be grooming until we can get some real snow to work with. Merry Christmas! Think Snow!

SIDNAW - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Sno Valley Riders Snowmobile Club >> Groomer Report; Trail Condition: See Report Below Last Groomed: December 23rd, 2024 Reported On: December 24th, 2024 @ 11:32am We have been grooming the eastern portion of our trail system only, from Trout Creek to the end of trail 174. That part is real nice the farther east and north that you go. The west end just doesn’t have enough snow. With the warm temps we will be shut down for a few days. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! Please ride on the RIGHT side of the trail and STOP at the stop signs! Stay on the trail, if you don’t we could lose trail permissions on private property. We now have the Groomer Trackers installed and working on our groomers. We groom every day that the weather conditions and equipment allow. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns. #westernup... See MoreSee Less
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. The highest snowfall accumulations in the U.P. are expected from Manistique eastward through the Mackinac Bridge with 2" to 5" inches of wet snow possible. Slippery road conditions are expected. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. If traveling to or from the Lower Peninsula, plan for additional travel time as there is greater chance for 4" to 6" inches of wet snowfall across much of the northern L.P. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising#newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylordLake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. Ok, im an old rider, but new to the science of groooming. When its hard packed like that, why dozer off the top to fill it in? Why not use the drag to fill and keep the hardpack intact?
