We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 80 inches of snow to start out winter!
After a light rain and warming temperatures, trails are in poor shape and generally frozen with some stretches of dirt showing. Grooming has stopped due to the temps, but don’t worry, there’s more snow in the forecast! Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord.
A few things to remember about groomers:
– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. – Please move off the trail when groomers are coming and allow them to safely pass. – If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass. – Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night. – Have fun and stay safe!

Its the first day of WINTER. We had a light dusting overnight but in both Grayling and Frederic I could still see my foot prints from yesterday. At least its a cold 13 degrees this morninig and the ground has hardened up. I only had 2 sleds come in here yesterday and saw one sled pulling into the swamp about 5:30 when I left. Only 2 trailers at the motels this morning in Grayling and they were both warming up their trucks and heading to the u.p. so I am not expecting to see to much traffic tommorow. Weather forcasts have change a little bit for colder temps the next couple of days so that is good but I dont like the extended for between Christmas and New years. Maybe Santa will surprise us but hey its not any different than the last few years. We have to make the best of what we have or just stay put. Pics below are the 2 guys that rode in yesterday morning and also I am selling my side by with the Boss plow on it. Its a 2006 Polaris 500, 4wd, hydraulic 3 way Boss plow. $8500. Give me a call if you are interested. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Pics below I took at several trail crossings this morning. Still alot of snow in the woods and I have seen worse looking trails but with the forcasts for the next few days what little we have is going to deteriorate so I say use it while it is here. ONce the rain starts it will ruin things. Boy I do not like saying things like this but what can you do. Snow chants may help turn the rain to snow. Thanks for checking in. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. The highest snowfall accumulations in the U.P. are expected from Manistique eastward through the Mackinac Bridge with 2" to 5" inches of wet snow possible. Slippery road conditions are expected. Allow for some extra commuting time this morning; especially along the M-28 and US-2 runs. If traveling to or from the Lower Peninsula, plan for additional travel time as there is greater chance for 4" to 6" inches of wet snowfall across much of the northern L.P. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising#newberry #soo #straitsarea#petoskey#gaylordLake effect snow showers off Lake Michigan and a Clipper system will combine for wet snow accumulations today. WEATHER UPDATE via Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> We crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24). As stated with our earlier posts, the precip types should be a snow/sleet mix as you head north of the I-96 corridor. The Saginaw Bay, Thumb and northern half of the lower peninsula should remain all snow. The tricky part is the snow and freezing rain potential south of I-96, including the I-94 corridor. As of this post, icy roads have shut down portions of I-94 west of Jackson. Please take your time on the roads today and be ready for rapidly changing road conditions. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskey #soo #newberry#straitsareaWe crunched some data and wanted to share our snow totals forecast through 7 AM EST on Christmas Eve (12/24).
