SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association – 12/27 This warm up is not what we need at all. We won’t be grooming until we get more snow and cold weather, looks like that not coming until end of next week. The trails in and out of town are thin and all the parking lots are almost dirt and mud. Not what everyone wants to hear including us. We’ll update when it cools down again and we can head back out and groom again. The rain may mix with a little snow over the higher terrain of the west today. Look for the rain to end from south to north late afternoon and evening, then expect dry, but mostly cloudy weather for the rest of the weekend and into Monday. Temperatures stay mild, peaking in the mid/upper 30s during the day and falling back to only as low as the mid/upper 20s at night. POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend. Hazardous driving conditions are possible, particularly on snow covered and untreated surfaces away from the Great Lakes. Higher terrain locations away from the Great Lakes may remain below freezing tonight where a light glaze may form. Areas of dense fog are expected in the central sections of the U.P., with Dense Fog Advisories hoisted into early Friday morning.
