KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 12/28
‼️Update: 12/28/24 after the warm temps, rain last night and today conditions did deteriorate significantly…. All pavement areas are completely bare, making getting in and out of towns, to gas stations, restaurants, bars etc difficult. Grooming operations all across the U.P. pretty much have been paused. On the bright side, the New Year looks to bring in colder temperatures and the return of winter! Keep the snow dances going! ❄️🥶💃🕺
We shared a post earlier todayThe Mariner North, owner of Dumper Dan Sportfishing Charters in Sheboygan Wisconsin, and his family’s trip riding from Bruce Crossing to Copper Harbor ➡️ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/154RKCxhwD/?mibextid=wwXIfr Well Dan and family are back in Houghton now and enjoying a delicious meal at Quincy’s Dining Co! Have you eaten here? Conveniently located right on trail 3 and highly recommended! Dan said it misted lightly on them on the way up to The Mariner North and they had some fog, but so far the rain has held off! The snow cover on trail 3 is holding well! However, Copper Harbor area/Brockway Krupps Resortetting pretty bare…. SeeMidwest Weathersaid that there are quite a few sleds out and it’s getting choppy. This is to be expected with this weather and the fact that the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club has paused grooming operations until the conditions are more favorable.
Still plenty of (s)miles were had and memories were made riding as a family!
Thanks for sharing Dan! Enjoy your meal at Quincy’s and the ride back to your lodging at Krupps Resort!
Be sure to checkout Midwest Weather for the forecast! Looks like things could turn around starting the middle of next week, in regards to fresh snowfall!

POSSIBLE LAKE EFFECT SNOW EVENT AFTER NEW YEAR'S DAY UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> The pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday. It is way too far out to talk about totals, especially as deterministic guidance often underestimates these events. I wouldn't be surprised if there is over a foot in some locations just in that period. There'll be more updates on snowfall totals late this weekend. For that reason, Kryptonite Weather and I are going to the UP of Michigan to chase the lake effect later next week. We will have more updates on plans as we get closer. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylordThe pattern will become favorable for a significant lake effect event after New Year's Day with increasing confidence in the first lake effect event to take place next Thursday-Sunday.
