Gaylord Area Trail Report – 01/02
Gaylord Bureau – January 2, 2025 1:30 p.m. We had an epic start to snowmobile season – the Gaylord area got hit with over 90 inches of snow to start out winter! We received 4 inches of snow overnight and there’s more on the way! Trail 7 is being packed today and is in fair shape. Check out this live feed to see trail #7, just north of Gaylord. About 4 to 5 fresh inches of fluffy lake effect snow here in Frederic today Jan 2. Its 1:30 p.m. and I didnt get here till about noon. We had only about 2 inches in Grayling and I have seen 6 sleds this morning. Rich and Lisa rode in from Lakes of the North and they said they have more snow there. Their pic is below with 2 other pics I took outside here this morning. I still call this very marginal riding snow as you just go right thru to the dirt on the first pass but we have to start over so we can build from here. My gut feeling is that there will be a fair amount of riders around friday and saturday as there is supposed to be more snow coming but we really need a nice thick system snow to get it packing. We have only had another couple inches of lake effect snow since yesterday. I still feel like your skis are right thru the little bit we have and carbides are right thru to the gravel. Sleds are out and about riding and I heard the parking lot on 612 is full and I have 2 trucks out back so far this morning. I saw sleds running thru Grayling first thing this morning and the most I saw at the Swamp yesterday was about 20. At least its nice and white out. Here are a few pics. Thanks for checking in. Its 10 a.m. and we had another few inches of light feathery lake effect snow. Things are nice and white out there but I dont like the sun. We need a good system snow. There were a few sleds out and about yesterday but with no base I feel like we need alot more snow. We have to start somewhere. Temps are suppposed to get colder next week. People tell me I am to negative on my reports sometimes but I look at it like would I ride my sled in it. With this feathery light weight snow its pretty much worn out after the first couple sleds go by and you are right thru to the gravel. But you have to take what we have and its not much.
