Seney Area Trail Report – 01/08

SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association >> 01/08

Here’s the current trail update so everyone knows. All our trails north of M-28 are in good to great shape. Trail 43 heading south is not currently being groomed due to loggers.

They are working down there and the road is being plowed from Seney to 10 Curves Rd. We haven’t been down there to get the current conditions.

We hear from riders It’s rideable but not great, the skis hit rocks and the road is ruff from the all the logging trucks.

Nothing we can do about that sorry folks. Trail 43 north of Seney has a couple water holes to contend with and we have detour signs up to avoid that area. Once it freezes in we will take the signs down and reopen that part of the trail. Trail 431 is in great shape. Trail 440 is in great shape. Trail 8 to the Bear Trap is in great shape. We do have 2 Park & Rides one is in Seney, and the other one is off M-77 north of Seney about 4 miles just past The Fox River. If you’re planing on coming up you are good to go.

We know there’s not much snow in the lower and taking a trip up here don’t seem to promising. But once you cross the bridge and you get about 5 miles south of M-28 you’ll see snow.

The snow gets deeper the further north of M-28 you go and the riding is good. If you have a trip planed come on up and enjoy it. Remember ride right and stay safe out there.

Consider this the most current trail update.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> SNOW TIME!!
The big system to the south will be giving us a little bit of snow on the north end Friday!
Expect a nice and easy 1-3" for the most part across the area. Roads will be slick at times, but salt and brine treatments should work just fine with temps in the middle 20s.
Winds could be about 10-15mph at times, which isn't too high, but still could cause some blowing around and reduced visibility. Mainly in wide open areas.
TIMING: Snow starts in Southwest Michigan, Lake Michigan shoreline of Northern Lower, and the U.P. between 7-8am. Flint and the TriCities by about 10-11am. Detroit likely after 12pm, maybe even as late as 2pm in some areas.
System snow will wrap up around midnight while lake effect kicks in on the west side of the state behind the system.
Lake effect totals Saturday are NOT included on this map. I'm keeping this for Friday only.
Lake effect Saturday will be very localized with some areas perhaps getting 3-6" more in heavy bands. #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskey #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaSNOW TIME!!
