TRAVERSE CITY AREA UPDATE via Grand Traverse Area Snowmobile Club >> 01/15 We continue to get a light lake effect. This morning we had about 2 inches of fresh snow. Tomorrow, we’re forecasted for 1-3+ depending on which way the wind blows. The groomers have been doing a great job with the snow they have to work with. The trails are rated as good with some thin spot with snirt. We need a good system dump! Until that happens, GTASC groomers will do the best they can with what they have to work with. Temperatures also climb above freezing through the overnight, remaining there until Thursday evening. The bad news is that gusty winds return late tonight into Thursday. Snow will continue to spread across the area, leading to 1-2" of wet accumulations for many south of the bridge before switching over rain. Strong winds are expected today with gusts to 40+ mph, potentially leading to more down trees and limbs from recent icing. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat.
