Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Snow will spread across Upper Michigan late this afternoon and evening with occasional snow then continuing through tonight. The snow will diminish from west to east on Sunday. By late Sunday morning, expect 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation, but locally up to around 5 inches of snow is possible on the Keweenaw. MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> Well, last night was interesting. After I was well I to my full run last night we got word that our neighbors to the east, S.O.R.V.A. need some help grooming. So we got a plan together and hit it head on. Here is my take on our trail from Rumely to Little Lake. Things get really thin from a mile east of US41 until you hit Little Lake. Personally, I wouldn't ride my sleds on that stretch myself because there are many sections that are just dirt. Others have been riding it and getting through. Can you say new carbides. Lol. Now, once we get west of Little Lake, it gets to be decent again, but still on the thin side, but very rideable. We were able to make a full run, but I did have to lift the drag up many times in certain areas due to no snow. The east end of our section of 8 from Rumely to 417 is great. We have plenty of snow to work with, and the trail has been grooming out nicely. Now, what we did for SORVA last night. I groomed from our turn around at 417 and went up to the brownstone, then over to AuTrain. As most of you all know, the bridge is closed, so we have to turn around there. We did not go west on 417 due to lack of snow. Trevor met me at the groomer, and we topped it off . He went east on 8 and groomed to Highway 94 and up to Christmas. We will continue to help SORVA out the best we can. We still won't be grooming past Rumely for the near future due to the lack of snow. So this helps to free us up to help out our neighbors and hopefully keep you all smiling when you are riding. Ride right, have fun, and be safe out there... #munising #snowphotos ... Thanks for helping SORVA out with their west end. đź‘Ť. Hoping for more snow so it fills in that brown stretch.

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A much cloudier day over the UP compared to yesterday! Light snow showers have been observed today with only a half inch so far at the office here in Negaunee Township. Despite the light nature of the snow, it has been efficient at reducing visibility, with below 1 mile visibility being reported at some locations this morning, so take caution while traveling today! #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea ... MUNISING AREA UPDATE via Alger County SORVA >> Grooming Update
We have 2 of 3 groomers down.........
The John Deere 6175 has more pump issues. We were able to limp it back in and get it inside the heated shop. All of the needed parts have been ordered and the Mechanic will be here with them Monday.
Last night the Prinoth Bison went down. It is normally stored outside in Christmas. We had it in the shop to thaw out and complete all of the maintenance which we did. Every thing was running great. I made it from Shingleton to Wetmore, then Munising. Just in to the trail at the end of Brook St. by the Krist Gas Station. A quarter mile in to that trail I started hearing a load screaming noise and thought it was a fan with ice in it or some thing. I stopped and got out to inspect. By the time I made it to the back engine compartment, the noise stopped. I though maybe ice in fan and it cleared. When I got back in I had 0 hydraulics. It turns out there is a flex plate between the engine and the splitter box. If you all remember, this machine early in its life was sunk partially in a swamp. This flex plate would have been packed with mud and water. At that time we did clean out all we could but have a feeling this contributed to this premature failure. It is sounding like the earliest we can get the needed part is Sunday or Monday. Prinoth is willing to come Sunday if they can get the part. The 3 pumps will have to come out. 350lbs each. Then the splitter box has to come out. Replace the flex plate and reassemble.
The machine is still out there on the trail. There is a path where sleds can get by single file. You will have to ride under the caution tape we have set up with traffic cones. Please leave it in place. So far folks have been.
Tomorrow Moring (Friday) 8 am we will be going in there with an Excavator to drag the drag out the quarter mile backwards. We are going out there tonight with an aux hydro pack to get the wing up and tires down. we will also get it off of the tractor pintle hitch. Then we have to remove the tracks from the tractor so that we can drag that out backwards to Brook St.
The trail will be impassible tomorrow morning until we get the machine out of there.
I would consider the trail closed tomorrow and make alternate plans for routes.
We are reaching out to surrounding clubs to see if they can cover trails for us. It is sounding like they are willing to help out. We are also looking at the possibility of getting the Eastern UP loaner groomer that is located in Strongs, MI just East of Newberry. We are working on seeing what our options are for trucking.
We have 1 groomer running strong and our neighbor clubs stepping up to help we are trying to keep the trails in good condition. Please understand we are doing all we can and you may see some whoops out there.
Our last John Deere is running between Shingleton and Christmas. We know what trails see the most traffic and will make grooming schedule adjustments based on the conditions. #munisingGrooming Update

MUNISING AREA UPDATE via TNT Trenary Northern Trails >> Sounds like Alger SORVA will be sending heavy equipment out for their Prinoth recovery tomorrow. Please stay clear of the Prinoth recovery area tomorrow. To top it off, their 6175 is down. We will be assisting them with additional grooming on their west end, so don’t be surprised to see us on 417, 418, 7, and 8 around the clock to assist them during their groomer breakdown. We are working on scheduling runs as I type. #munising ... See MoreSee Less
