Lake effect snow ramps up across western Chippewa County tonight, with several inches of snow possible near Paradise / Whitefish Point. Later tonight, steady light snow commences across northwest lower Michigan... and that's just tonight into tomorrow! Saw both Grayling groomers out and about this morning. Rode 50 miles yesterday afternoon and I still say this is the best snow in years. Supposed to be some light snow each day this week so that is good and the temps should be great too. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its a nice calm sunday morning in downtown Frederic, almost noon. Sleds are out and about buzzing town. Typically on super bowl sunday everyone leaves town early. We had a total of I would say 6 to 8 inches of nice system snow yesterday. One nice thing with this much snow is that there is so much of it that it spreads the riders out so it doesnt seem as busy. I ran out of time this morning so I had to take a picture off my phone this time. Hopefully it's visible enough.
A winter storm is expected to bring a swath of heavy snowfall accumulations from KS/NE to portions of MI. A surface low will deepen in the panhandle and move northeast through the day on Wednesday. A large area of 6-9" is expected, which will cause significant travel impacts on Wednesday and Thursday. Snow will overspread southwest to northeast Tuesday night west of the Missouri River and Wednesday morning east of the Missouri River. Snow will fall for as long as 18 hours in some areas.
A large area of increased lift and frontogensis with a deformation band will enhance snowfall rates to 1" an hour.
