Paradise Area Trail Report – 03/03

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 03/03

3/3/25
25 degrees this morning under a partly cloudy sky. Supposed to get up into the upper 30`s today and for the next few but drop below freezing at night. The trails should be fine, still tons of snow on the ground! The plowed dirt road connector routes….just very short distances…..will get tough tho, and I`m thinking the roads into and outa town will get bare again.

All trails were groomed through-out the weekend and every operator has said the same…..the trails are in great shape, some even suggested excellent!!!!

In case you didn`t catch it in my last report. The swamp south of town on trail #8 opened up. It really sucks but ya can`t fight Ole Mother Nature. The gates are closed. Don`t go around them, you will get stuck and we can`t help you. You can ride the UNPLOWED portion of M-123 from the river mouth to the south end of town then you MUST jump onto the town trail. DO NOT run M-123 thru town!!! The law is watching!!!

Come on U.P.!!!!!!!!!!!! Times are gettin shorter and the days are gettin warmer

PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders www.paradiseareanightriders.org >> 3/5/25
34 degrees this morning and raining....WTH? It looks like it might change to wet snow a little later today and then the temps will drop into the 20`s tonight. I guess all I can say is keep an eye on the weather....I know ya`ll do anyhow.
All trails were run yesterday and I talked with every operator and they all said the same thing.....the trails are still in great shape!!!! Even groomer Mike C. who ran the Point trails let the excellent word slip out and I have never heard him say that!!! Yes, they are a little mushy but they are flat!!!!! With the drags that we use we can groom in this warmer weather. With the colder temps at night they will be good to go. I think this weekend will be fine, just expect the paved roads to be bare and the plowed dirt roads that we use for connectors will be down to mud.
Unfortunately, I have a family emergency I have to attend to down state so this will be my last report till at least next week.....sorry. Hopefully somebody else will fill my shoes until I get back if something major happens.

WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> Snow map is holding strong based on latest guidance!
I see the small NW shift on the Euro. However, the HRRR and GFS have been doing well this season and are holding steady with my map below.
This will start after sunset tonight and continue through very early Thursday.
The 24" potential is in the high terrain west of Marquette NOT for the city itself. I think a foot is possible there, though! Marquette is in my 10-14" / 12-16" band so essentially 10-16" of snow.
Remember the WIND will be strong. Gusts 40-50mph will common in the UP with the snow coming down. Blizzard conditions are possible. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaSnow map is holding strong based on latest guidance!

All paved roads into and outa town are bare now and the plowed dirt roads we use are all mud again.....bummer. I`m sure ya`ll are watching the weather for whats gonna happen the next couple days. "They" are saying a bunch of rain here and maybe some wet snow, thats not gonna help much. Don`t like to sound so negative but it is what it is. We didn`t run anything yesterday but will run everything today. Once all the guys are done they will let me know how things look and then I`ll let ya`ll know tomorrow morning. Lets see what happens. The good side is there still is a lot of snow in da woods.

CURTIS AREA UPDATE via Curtis Area Trail Association >> The Newberry loop was groomed last night from Curtis, Helmer & McMillan Spurs and trail 45 up to the trail 9 intersection and back to Curtis.
The groomer did note periodical thin spots in wet areas, some dirt spots, but still very rideable.
We are closely watching the weather, as forecasting some rain tonight and warmer temps over the next couple of days.
We are also watching the potential for a mid week snow event, therefore additional grooming will most likely not be done until we see what the weather event brings. More trail updates to come as the weather system gets closer 🤞. #curtis #newberry #snowphotos

CURTIS AREA UPDATE via The Rail House-Trout Lake MI >> Saturday we rode from Trout Lake to Curtis and down to Naubinway before heading back. The father West and South we got, the thinner the trails got. We were able to continue without soeds overheating but there was ice, rocks and twigs.
Today we headed North and played in the forestry roads around Strongs. Lots of snow to play on, no issues. We did not go North of M28 but the farther North you get, usually the better it gets. Video below is from that ride.... you can't even tell it's March in that video!!
